Payroll Clerk

Ascend Staffing is looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Payroll Clerkto join our team. This role is an important part of ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time while providing excellent support when payroll questions arise.

The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable working with numbers and computer systems, and able to manage multiple priorities with accuracy. You’ll work closely with employees, payroll leadership, and the accounting team to help keep payroll processes running smoothly and efficiently.

Compensation

$16.50 -$17.50 Per Hour DOE

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviewing and verifying employee timekeeping records for accuracy
• Researching and resolving discrepancies related to hours worked, deductions, or payroll information
• Entering payroll data into company systems and verifying amounts before payroll is processed
• Updating employee banking and direct deposit information as needed
• Maintaining accurate electronic and paper payroll records
• Processing updates related to pay rates, employee status changes, and other payroll adjustments
• Responding professionally to employee payroll questions and concerns
• Documenting payroll-related issues and escalating them to the Payroll Manager when appropriate
• Helping maintain payroll policies and procedures that comply with applicable state and federal requirements
• Working cross-functionally with payroll, accounting, and other departments
• Researching and resolving both current and historical payroll issues
• Performing other payroll and administrative responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required (Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field preferred)
• Ability to process basic functions and formulas in Microsoft Excel
• Familiarity with payroll software a plus
• Strong attention to detail required
• Familiarity with general accounting principles
• Strong organization skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer systems knowledge and experience
• Good team player
• Patience
• Positive attitude
