ASML is a semiconductor equipment manufacturer specializing in high-precision photolithography systems, computational lithography software, and metrology and inspection solutions. Headquartered in Veldhoven, Netherlands, the enterprise is the world’s sole supplier of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines - including next-generation High-NA EUV platforms - alongside a broad portfolio of deep ultraviolet (DUV) systems. Through its global network of R&D centers, manufacturing facilities, and field support services across Europe, Asia, and North America, the organization enables global semiconductor foundries and chipmakers to fabricate advanced logic and memory microchips.

Introduction to the role

Do you have a MSc. or PhD degree in Physics/Engineering? Do you want to become a technical leader and work with optics, lasers, software, electronics? Do you have what it takes to be a technical leader in the field of illumination, sources and dose control that maintains the multi-disciplinary overview while we push the technology boundaries again and again? Do you like to develop yourself and coach your colleagues? If so, please apply, because you sound like the next DUV Illumination and Dose Control NPI Functional lead engineer!

Role and responsibilities

Within ASML, D&E DUV is responsible for the specification and development of ASML DUV products. The Twinscan DUV Optical Column department is responsible for development of optical systems that are used for projection of IC-design layers onto the wafer. The department is divided into multiple groups each of which works in its own specialist subsystem / area.

As NPI Product Functional lead engineer you cover the full scope for new product introductions in the field of Illumination and Dose Control (ILLDC) for Dry systems.

You:

  • contribute to all various stages of development, integration and qualification of sources, optical modules and sensors,
  • provide technical leadership,
  • drive for successful integration of new products in close cooperation with the functional and competence functional lead engineers and the engineering teams, and
  • see it as a challenge to steer, give guidance and grow a (young) enthusiastic multidisciplinary team (MSc and PhD’s).

To be successful you will need to prioritize and set your own goals.

Furthermore, we expect you to take initiative, be creative and that you take the technical leadership to steer the team and develop/coach others. As a team player you must stay focused on the successful execution of the projects in the team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of technical professionals to ensure successful execution of the project by providing high level vision, technical expertise and guidance.
  • Secure quality of the project, review and challenge the team to get to agreed functionality and spec.
  • Prioritize your own work, but also the technical issues and the work of the team (together with the project leader).
  • Taking accountability, and reviewing the value of the work the development team delivers. You will work with a young talented team. Technically you will be guiding and growing the team.
  • Define functional and system design at functional lead engineer level driving both SW and HW based developments in a multidisciplinary (agile) development team.
  • Generate and maintain performance and issue overviews, and steer developments.
  • Technical project responsibility towards external stakeholders like system engineering, marketing and programs.
  • Contribute to the ILLDC roadmap: you generate solutions that increase customer value.
  • Maintain close contact with suppliers with respect to technical specifications and demands.

Education and experience

MSc. or PhD degree in Physics/Engineering with clear demonstration of (and drive for) excellence expertise and technical leadership.

  • Able to understand and communicate with multidisciplinary teams, functional lead engineers and vendors in the fields of electronics, mechanics, optics, software and mechatronics
  • Experience in the field of high-tech system development
  • Experience with functional lead engineering work, e.g., spec breakdown, work breakdown, solution comparison
  • 2+ year experience as technical functional lead engineer (architect), system designer or similar function, preferably in the optics domain
  • Established experience in working with complex projects (amount of stakeholders, customers)

  • Convince others of your ideas.
  • Ability to handle a wide scope with multiple different projects.
  • Good knowledge of English.

Other information

It is preferred that all team members become all-round. Affinity and experience with optics, lasers, electronics and integration is preferred.

The holder of this position reports after Go-Live of the MDU structure to the DTL of the “Functional Solutions Dry” team in the “Optical Column NPI” MDU (which reports into the DUV Immersion program, because of strong links with ILLDC Immersion NPI developments).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
