AstraZeneca is a British-Swedish pharmaceutical company formed in 1999 by the merger of Astra of Sweden and Zeneca of the United Kingdom, and now one of the largest drug makers in the world by revenue. Its portfolio is concentrated in oncology with Tagrisso, Imfinzi and Enhertu, alongside cardiovascular, renal and metabolic products including Farxiga, respiratory and immunology medicines, and a rare disease business built on the acquisition of Alexion. Headquartered in Cambridge in England and listed in London, Stockholm and New York, it reports in United States dollars.

About AstraZeneca

At AstraZeneca Malaysia, our ambition is to transform the lives of Malaysian patients by helping ensure access to life-changing medicines across our priority therapy areas.

About the Oncology Business Unit

In the Oncology Business Unit, we relentlessly follow the science and challenge the status quo to deliver more effective treatments to patients in need. We push the boundaries of knowledge to change the practice of medicine and help ensure that no patient is left behind, regardless of disease stage or care setting.

The Opportunity

The Franchise Lead Lung Cancer is the business leader for the Lung Cancer franchise in Malaysia. The role is accountable for setting the franchise vision, building and developing a high-performing team, and delivering sustainable business performance across the portfolio. The Franchise Lead will protect and strengthen the established private business while unlocking growth opportunities within the Ministry of Health (MOH), using strategic thinking, portfolio leadership, innovation and disciplined execution to improve outcomes for patients.

The role leads integrated sales and marketing delivery, shapes access and ecosystem strategies, manages the franchise P&L and resources, and ensures that all activities are aligned with global and local strategy, AstraZeneca values, and applicable compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Franchise Strategy and Portfolio Leadership

  • Set a clear vision and define the strategy for the Lung Cancer franchise in alignment with OBU priorities and the evolving needs of patients, customers and the healthcare system.
  • Lead with a portfolio mindset, balancing the needs of established brands, lifecycle opportunities, new indications and future launches to maximise long-term franchise value.
  • Anticipate market, competitor, policy and customer developments, translate insights into choices, and maintain a focused set of strategic priorities.
  • Build strong connections with Global, International and Area teams to shape strategy, share local insights and secure support for Malaysia priorities.

Team Building, Leadership and Performance

  • Build, lead, coach and develop an effective sales and marketing organisation with the capabilities required for today and the future.
  • Create a high-performance culture with clear expectations, strong accountability, constructive challenge, collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Drive talent management, succession planning, capability development and career progression across the franchise.
  • Ensure high-quality performance management and support leaders and team members to translate strategy into measurable outcomes.

Commercial Performance and Execution

  • Own franchise performance, including sales, market share, profitability, forecast accuracy and budgetary compliance.
  • Protect and strengthen AstraZeneca's private-sector Lung Cancer business through differentiated strategy, excellent customer engagement and consistent execution.
  • Drive sustainable growth in MOH by identifying priority opportunities, removing access barriers and deploying resources against the highest-value opportunities.
  • Lead sales execution and ensure integrated brand and customer plans are translated into effective field priorities, activities and performance follow-up.
  • Apply strong financial and business acumen to resource allocation, investment decisions and P&L management.

Access, MOH Growth and Healthcare Partnerships

  • Coordinate the development of patient access strategies appropriate to each brand and stage of the lifecycle, across private and public healthcare settings.
  • Partner with Market Access, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs and other functions to shape solutions that improve access, affordability and patient outcomes.
  • Develop innovative funding, access and partnership approaches that support sustainable adoption within MOH.
  • Build trusted, compliant relationships across the lung cancer ecosystem and position AstraZeneca as a long-term partner in addressing national oncology priorities.

Innovation and Business Transformation

  • Create an environment where teams challenge established ways of working, test new ideas and scale solutions that deliver meaningful value.
  • Champion digital, data-driven and omnichannel approaches that strengthen customer experience, execution quality and decision-making.
  • Identify and lead partnerships or new business models that address unmet patient and healthcare-system needs.
  • Lead change with clarity and pace, ensuring the organisation is ready for portfolio evolution and future growth.

Cross-functional Leadership and Governance

  • Lead integrated franchise planning and execution across Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Government Affairs, Finance and other relevant functions.
  • Coordinate therapy-area and brand-level plans, including strategy, execution, measurement and course correction.
  • Ensure franchise activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, industry codes and AstraZeneca policies, standards and values.
  • Maintain effective governance, risk management and budget control across the franchise.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum five years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical industry across sales management, marketing or both; oncology and Lung Cancer experience is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum three years of line-management experience, with demonstrated capability in people leadership, talent development and team building; experience leading managers is preferred.
  • Proven ability to build, lead and develop medium-to-large teams and deliver through others.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and portfolio leadership, including the ability to make choices across brands, indications and investment horizons.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong commercial, financial and people performance in a complex and competitive environment.
  • Experience in launch readiness and commercialisation, including patient access, affordability, market shaping and lifecycle management.
  • Understanding of Malaysia's private and public healthcare environments, with relevant experience developing business within MOH.
  • Experience leading cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Government Affairs and Finance.
  • Ability to lead innovation, organisational change and new ways of working while maintaining executional discipline.
  • Strong financial acumen, business judgement, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, operate effectively in ambiguity and create clarity for others.

Success in this Role

  • A capable, engaged and accountable Lung Cancer team with a strong succession and development pipeline.
  • Sustained strength in the private market and measurable progress against agreed MOH growth priorities.
  • A clear, insight-led portfolio strategy that connects current performance with future launches and lifecycle opportunities.
  • Consistent delivery of commercial, financial, access and patient-impact objectives.
  • Visible innovation that improves customer engagement, access, operating effectiveness or patient outcomes.
  • Strong cross-functional alignment and disciplined, compliant execution.
