Be part of history in the making. AstraZeneca is building its first biologics manufacturing campus in Singapore - a groundbreaking USD 1.5 billion investment that will serve as a global hub for innovation and excellence.

This innovative facility will deliver end-to-end Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) capabilities with different manufacturing units/buildings in one campus:

  • Small molecule- chemical API production
  • Large molecule- monoclonal antibody manufacturing
  • Conjugation
  • Fill-and-finish operations, including sterile filling and lyophilization
  • Final secondary packaging

The campus will be equipped with innovative digital and automation infrastructure, enabling autonomous manufacturing powered by artificial intelligence. In addition, it will be designed for carbon neutrality, embedding sustainability into every aspect of operations and setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible biologic's manufacturing.

Introduction to the Role:

Are you ready to define the standards for manufacturing materials and single-use systems that safeguard patient safety and product quality? In this senior role, you will be the go-to expert for materials and product-contact components across biologics, API, and fill-finish operations, shaping how we qualify, manage, and continuously improve the materials that touch every medicine we make.

You will lead risk-based qualification and lifecycle strategies that directly influence manufacturing robustness, regulatory compliance, and speed to patients. Partnering closely with the Director of Product Technical Transfer and cross-functional teams, you will translate science into reliable, scalable solutions that keep our operations resilient and our pipeline moving.

Accountabilities:

Material Qualification Leadership: Strategize and continuously improve material qualification, lifecycle management, and supplier assessment programs to ensure compliance, product quality, and manufacturing robustness.

Risk-Based Assessment and Qualification: Lead risk assessments, technical evaluations, and qualification activities for manufacturing materials, product-contact components, and single-use systems, ensuring fit-for-use and audit-ready documentation.

E&L Strategy and Patient Safety: Drive extractables and leachables strategies, material compatibility assessments, and scientific justifications that uphold regulatory compliance and protect patients.

Technology and Supplier Innovation: Evaluate and implement new materials, technologies, and supplier solutions to improve reliability, scalability, and operational performance across biologics and sterile manufacturing.

Technical Escalation and Problem Solving: Serve as the primary point of technical escalation, resolving complex challenges or coordinating cross-functional solutions; apply advanced knowledge of manufacturing systems, equipment, and regulatory guidelines to drive effective investigations and process improvements.

Process Excellence and Change Implementation: Support the implementation of changes, mitigate risks, and integrate innovative technologies or methodologies; align technical goals with operational and quality objectives while meeting business priorities and customer expectations.

Capability Building and Standards: Mentor MSAT material specialists, establish technical standards and best practices, and enable capability development across teams; advise and coach colleagues to strengthen expertise and promote consistent ways of working.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and External Engagement: Collaborate with internal regulatory groups, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, planning and purchasing, central project teams, and other sites; engage external suppliers and agencies to overcome obstacles and identify opportunities for enhancement.

Communication and Leadership Visibility: Communicate technical insights, recommendations, and potential innovations effectively to technical and non-technical stake-holders, including senior leadership; foster adoption of digital solutions and track effectiveness.

Continuous Improvement and Industry Awareness: Stay informed on industry trends and organizational developments to continuously improve technical practices and keep expertise current; engage teams to adopt digital tools and data-driven decision making.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Degree in technical or scientific field OR Technical/Associate/Vocational diploma with equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in regulated manufacturing environments
  • Deep expertise in manufacturing or packaging operations
  • Proven ability to resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, SHE, SOPs, compliance frameworks
  • Experience in applying project management principles
  • Understanding of manufacturing and engineering landscapes
  • Ability to explain technical decisions to diverse stake-holders

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Hold or pursue recognised professional certification
  • Broad understanding of product supply chain
  • Knowledge of interdependence between machinery / equipment, components/ materials, and process performance
  • Ability to connect supply chain operations with process optimization
