Astro Mechanica develops an adaptive-cycle jet engine driven by an electric turbine, aimed at aircraft that must be efficient from takeoff through supersonic cruise. Decoupling the compressor from the turbine lets the engine change its operating cycle in flight. The company has tested engine hardware and targets high-speed aviation and defence customers.

ABOUT US:

Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company building a faster, more connected future. Our mission is to democratize high-speed flight by making supersonic travel flexible, accessible, and sustainable. We believe that rapid, on-demand, point-to-point global mobility will become the new standard for moving people and goods across the planet. To achieve this, we are integrating our advanced airframe and engine technologies-which include Duality™, our proprietary dual-use propulsion system-with a new flight operations model to make supersonic transport as efficient and economical as commercial air travel is today. In the near term, we are developing adaptable, high-speed systems to close aircraft performance gaps for the United States government.

WHO WE ARE:

We’re a team of passionate engineers dedicated to advancing aerospace. We’re generalists with specialist depth, united by a flat structure and a shared obsession with building things that work well. We move fast, stay pragmatic, and let engineering excellence speak louder than hierarchy.

WHO YOU ARE:

Astro Mechanica is looking for an Aviation Engine Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in crafting precise, high-performance components that push the boundaries of aerospace engineering. Your work at Astro Mechanica will keep manufacturing and test operations running smoothly, while constantly expanding and improving overall program cadence and workflows.

In this role, your mission will be building an engine repair station for innovative engine applications from the ground up. As the first certified jet mechanic at a jet engine company, you will have firsthand responsibility to develop internal processes on engine inspection and alterations alongside engineering with heavy influence on technical direction. This will enable a rapid program development and validation, with transition to manufacturing in production quantities. You embody the test-like-you-fly philosophy.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Inspect engines after regular use for corrosion, wear, and prior damage, determine approach for restoration, and implement solution

  • Establish inspection criteria and acceptance standards where no prior process exists, and refine over time

  • Frequent collaboration with engineering, review and approve any deviation from planned procedure during unprecedented build configurations

  • Maintain a high standard of quality through documentation, traceability, and overall aesthetic

  • Train and calibrate other technicians on inspection standards as the program scales

  • Conduct test facility and equipment maintenance, and site cleanliness

  • Conduct work efficiently while in a safe and professional manner

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 5+ years experience working on civil/military engine repair stations at a maintenance, overhaul, and repair (MRO) facility

  • FAA A&P or repairman certificate, with experience complying to 14 CFR Part 145 class 3 powerplant rating

  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA), regularly conducting major repairs and alterations

  • Direct hands-on experience with IAE V2500, GE CFM56, or comparable turbofan engines

  • Experience troubleshooting technical problems across many applications, translating into a versatile tool kit

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, maintenance manuals, OEM documentation, and wiring pinout diagrams

  • Flexibility to work in fast-paced environment and takes initiative for continuous improvement

  • Capable of lifting 35 pounds, stand for long periods, maneuver in restricted spaces, work low to ground and on raised platforms

  • A mechanical life outside the job is a real plus: hot rodding, motorsports, or other hands-on builds where you've had to solve problems without a finished manual

PERKS & BENEFITS:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, including Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

  • 401(k) program and transparent stock option plan

  • Self-managed and flexible time-off policy, including PTO, paid holidays, and sick time

  • Flexible work environment

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

At Astro Mechanica, we highly value in-office work to foster collaboration and strengthen our company culture. We consider working in the office five days a week an essential part of the employee's role.

Astro Mechanica is an equal opportunity employer. We proudly recruit and hire a diverse workforce and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
