About the role
We are looking for an experienced, certified Senior OutSystems Developer / Technical Consultant to design, develop and support enterprise applications built on OutSystems 11 in on-premises environments.
The role combines hands-on development with solution design, system integration, technical investigation and customer advisory. You will work closely with customers, internal teams and external vendors to understand business needs, assess existing implementations and recommend practical technical solutions.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working through ambiguity, asking constructive questions and explaining technical options and trade-offs. You will help customers make informed decisions while supporting the quality, maintainability and reliability of their applications.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain OutSystems 11 applications, with reusable modules, clear separation of responsibilities and appropriate security controls.
- Work with customers and business analysts to clarify requirements, understand business and technical constraints, and translate needs into solution designs, impact assessments and delivery estimates.
- Review existing architecture, code and vendor deliverables; identify gaps in performance, security, maintainability and implementation quality, and recommend improvements.
- Design and implement integrations with enterprise systems through REST APIs and other interfaces, covering authentication, data mapping, error handling and operational logging.
- Build proofs of concept to validate technical feasibility, integration approaches and platform capabilities.
- Investigate issues across OutSystems applications, databases, integrations and hosting infrastructure using logs, configuration and reproducible tests; establish root causes and coordinate fixes.
- Support on-premises platform configuration, deployment planning and production releases, working with infrastructure and DevOps teams to maintain service reliability.
- Write maintainable, tested solutions, review code, and support integration testing, UAT, performance testing and remediation of security findings.
- Provide practical technical advice to customers, explain solution options and trade-offs, and constructively challenge proposals when improvements are needed.
- Produce clear architecture diagrams, API specifications and technical findings; provide technical guidance and share knowledge with developers and project stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has
- 5+ years of software development experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on OutSystems 11 development and delivery of enterprise applications into production.
- An OutSystems 11 developer certification: Associate Developer (O11), an earlier Associate Reactive Developer (OutSystems 11) certification, or a higher-level O11 developer certification.
- Practical experience developing, deploying and supporting applications in OutSystems 11 on-premises environments.
- Strong OutSystems 11 skills in Reactive Web development, modular architecture, entities, application logic, reusable components and role-based access control.
- Experience with Service Studio, Service Center and LifeTime for development, troubleshooting and deployment.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, with a working understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT and API gateway integration.
- Strong relational database and SQL skills, including data modelling, query optimisation and investigation of data-related issues.
- Working knowledge of cloud hosting and network connectivity, preferably AWS, together with familiarity with Windows Server, IIS, DNS, proxies, firewalls and load balancers.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to distinguish symptoms from root causes and support recommendations with evidence.
- Strong consulting and communication skills, including active listening, stakeholder engagement and the ability to explain technical concepts to different audiences.
- A proactive, adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently, learn unfamiliar systems and balance business priorities with technical constraints.
Preferred qualifications and experience
- Additional OutSystems credentials, particularly Web Developer Specialist (O11) or Architecture Specialist (O11).
- Web and backend development skills in C#/.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React or comparable technologies. Experience developing OutSystems extensions with Integration Studio is also advantageous.
- Experience with Government Commercial Cloud (GCC), regulated environments, enterprise integration platforms or projects involving multiple vendors.
- Experience with secure file transfer, encryption, certificate management and enterprise authentication services.
- Demonstrated leadership and ownership, such as guiding developers, coordinating technical work, taking responsibility for outcomes and following issues through to resolution.
- Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work to improve development, testing, documentation or troubleshooting. Experience integrating AI capabilities into business applications is an additional advantage.
- A diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
