We’re looking for a Water Mains Commissioning Engineer to join our Severn Trent Water Framework

Location: Derby, with hybrid working across site, office and home.

Benefits: Company car/allowance, enhanced annual leave entitlement, and a range of family-friendly policies and benefits.

You’ll be responsible for the commissioning of new and replacement potable water mains, including LDTM, coordinating commissioning plans, flushing strategies and assurance activities to safely bring assets into operation. You’ll work closely with project teams, client operations, water quality, network control, hydraulic specialists and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and maintain commissioning plans, method statements, test sheets, flushing plans, contingency arrangements and handover records.

Undertake and coordinate swabbing, pressure testing, chlorination, de-chlorination, flushing, sampling, water quality monitoring and completion of commissioning records.

Condition existing mains to accommodate new flows or changes in flow direction.

Plan, coordinate and assure pressure tests, including test boundaries, test pressures, calibrated instrumentation, acceptance criteria, witnessing, recording and management of test failures.

Plan and deliver disinfection and flushing activities, including dosing, contact periods, target velocities and volumes, neutralisation, discharge locations, sampling requirements, consents and pollution prevention controls.

Confirm construction and installation readiness before commissioning, including inspections, permits, isolations, temporary works, access arrangements and supporting quality records.

Prepare commissioning RAMS and review contractor commissioning RAMS for technical adequacy and readiness, with formal approval completed through the relevant company and project arrangements.

Use hydraulic information and work with specialists to confirm commissioning flows, pressures, network constraints, discharge arrangements and possible impacts on customers and the live network.

Set, test and prove mains assets, including line valves, air valves, hydrants, washouts, flowmeters, instrumentation, PRVs, PSVs and flow control valves.

Coordinate network control approvals and operational requirements before new mains are brought into service, including contingency planning where required.

Act as a key commissioning contact, lead or support commissioning meetings and clearly record decisions, actions, responsibilities and changes.

Keep programme and completion information up to date, report progress, risks, delays and dependencies, and share lessons learned and good practice across the Commissioning team.

Skills & Experience

Practical experience commissioning potable water mains and distribution networks, ideally within the water industry.

Strong knowledge of pressure testing, swabbing, chlorination, flushing, sampling and water quality verification.

A recognised pressure testing and disinfection qualification, with knowledge of Type 2 pressure testing of PE mains.

Experience safely bringing new or modified mains into service on live operational networks.

Ability to develop commissioning plans, methodologies, flushing strategies and completion documentation.

Good understanding of hydraulic systems, pressures, flow rates, valves and associated network equipment.

Able to work effectively with project, operational, water quality, hydraulic and subcontractor teams.

EUSR National Water Hygiene and SHEA Water, or willingness to obtain, alongside a relevant CSCS card and full UK driving licence.

Experience of large-diameter mains, LDTM, Severn Trent Water procedures, telemetry or wider network assets would be beneficial.
