Who we are | Ko wai mātou:

Awanui Labs is a part of Awanui Group, the largest network of human and veterinary pathology laboratories in New Zealand. At Awanui, we're proud to be a national network of 25 laboratories, 150 collection centres, and employers of over 2,200 people throughout Aotearoa. Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We are currently seeking a practical, reliable, and proactive Facilities Coordinator to join our Awanui Labs Auckland team, based in Mt Wellington.

This is a hands-on and varied role responsible for ensuring our laboratory facilities and community collection centres across Auckland are well-maintained, safe, and operating efficiently.

Working closely with the Laboratory Operations Manager and Work Health and Safety Coordinator, you will carry out general maintenance and minor repairs, coordinate external contractors and suppliers, and support the ongoing upkeep and compliance of our facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced handyman or tradesperson who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and is looking to contribute to an organisation that plays an important role in supporting healthcare services across Auckland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake general handyman duties, routine maintenance, and minor repairs across Awanui Labs Auckland facilities and community collection centres.
  • Conduct regular inspections of premises, identify maintenance issues, and arrange appropriate repairs or escalate major concerns.
  • Coordinate and liaise with external contractors and suppliers to ensure maintenance and repair work is completed efficiently.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving facilities-related compliance issues, including building, fire safety, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Support the general upkeep, safety, and presentation of buildings and surrounding areas.
  • Build positive working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure facilities are maintained to a high standard.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

About you | He kōrero mōu:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in handyman, general maintenance, or trade-related work.
  • Strong practical maintenance and problem-solving skills, with the ability to undertake a variety of minor repairs.
  • Experience coordinating and working with external contractors and service providers.
  • A good understanding of workplace health and safety practices and the importance of maintaining safe, compliant facilities.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing maintenance requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive and collaborative approach.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, and identify issues before they become larger problems.
  • A practical, flexible, and reliable attitude, with strong attention to detail.
  • A full driver's licence.

What's in it for you | He aha mōu:

At Awanui Labs, you'll be part of a supportive and professional team that plays an important role in delivering quality healthcare services to communities across Auckland.

Our three core values guide us in creating an inclusive and respected workplace where everyone can thrive and make a meaningful difference:

  • Manaakitanga - We Care for each other and the people we serve.
  • Whakapakari - We Improve and adapt to create opportunities for success.
  • Hiranga - We Deliver the highest quality medical and scientific expertise.

This role offers the opportunity to enjoy a varied and hands-on working environment, build strong relationships across the organisation, and contribute directly to maintaining safe, functional, and high-quality facilities that support our essential laboratory services.

If you're a practical, motivated individual who takes pride in keeping facilities running smoothly and wants to be part of a friendly, supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.
