Bachelor Thesis – Radar Algorithms

Job Title

Job Description

Want to help radar understand the real world a little better? Join the Radar Algorithms team at Axis Communications in Lund for your bachelor's thesis. You'll explore and develop algorithms that improve how radar systems detect, classify, interpret or track objects in real-world environments. Together with the team, you'll shape a research question that fits your interests and background.

Category

Physics, Mathematics, Statistics

Scope

15 credits, one or two students, full-time or half-time

Your future team

You'll join the Radar Algorithms team at our headquarters in Lund. During the thesis, a Radar Algorithm Developer from the team will supervise you. This isn't a fixed project description that you just carry out. We see it as one shared opportunity within radar algorithms. You and the team will refine the research question and scope together, so the final project matches both what you're curious about and what you're good at.

What you'll explore

The thesis covers developing algorithms for radar systems working in real-world conditions, specifically:

• Clutter and false detection suppression: reducing unwanted detections, including those caused by waves or swaying objects

What you'll do as a thesis student

Depending on the direction you choose, your work may include:

• Reviewing relevant research to understand current approaches and where they fall short

• Working with real-world radar data, and possibly camera data

• Developing and implementing algorithms that address your research question

• Evaluating how well your solutions perform, and being clear about their limitations

Who we're looking for

You're a Bachelor's student who enjoys turning theory into algorithms that work on real, messy data. You might be studying Engineering Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another field. We prefer applications in pairs, so please state in your application if you’re applying with someone else.

We'd love to hear that you have

• Knowledge from relevant fields, such as machine learning, computer vision, robotics, or a related field.

• Experience with Python and data analysis.

• Interest in AI, sensor fusion, radar systems, and autonomous perception.

• A working ability to communicate in English, the working language for this thesis

If this sounds exciting but you're not sure you tick every box, we still encourage you to get in touch.

OK, I am interested! What do I do now?

You are valuable to us - how nice that you are interested in one of our proposals! There are a few things for you to keep in mind when applying.

• Applications are accepted in both Swedish and English, and you apply via the proposal advert.
• The announced thesis is open only to students affiliated with a Swedish University/College either directly or via an exchange program.
• When the thesis proposal states that it includes two students working together, we would like you to apply in pairs. In these cases, send one application each but make sure to clearly state in your application who your co-applicant is. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact us.
• Please attach your CV and University/College grade summary.

Do you have questions, or want to talk through possible thesis directions before you apply?
