Overview
Barrios Technology is an engineering solutions partner with more than 45 years of experience supporting NASA and the commercial space industry. We deliver innovative engineering, software, and technology integration services across NASA centers nationwide. Barrios prides itself on a people-focused culture that values creativity, diversity, professional growth, and a healthy work-life balance.
Barrios Technology is seeking Enterprise Architects to design, modernize, and govern technology ecosystems driving the next generation of aerospace innovation. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex aerospace operations and modern, cloud-native digital enterprise software platforms. You will collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams to map business capabilities to scalable, secure, and AI-enhanced target architectures.
This professional role requires a strong IT and development background, foundational knowledge in cloud technologies, and an orientation toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) implementations. As a core communicator, you will translate technical complexities into clear, actionable roadmaps for senior organizational leadership and technology departments.
At this time, we are reviewing candidates for multiple Enterprise Architect roles. While there is commonality across all of these opportunities, there are also specific responsibilities aligned to organizational deployments, which are detailed below.
Responsibilities
The Enterprise Architect will:
- Stakeholder Communication & Leadership: Regularly present architecture strategies, target states, and technology roadmaps to executive leadership and high-level business stakeholders.
- Effective Technical Translation: Concisely and effectively communicate complex technical blueprints, system risks, and structural plans to both highly technical engineering teams and non-technical business partners.
- Visual Blueprinting: Utilize industry-standard architecture diagramming software (e.g., ArchiMate, Lucidchart, Visio, Cameo, Miro) to build accessible, comprehensive system models and technical visualizations.
- Estimation & Scoping: Apply a strong technical foundation to accurately determine implementation timelines, level of effort (LOE), and resource allocation for complex enterprise initiatives.
- Cloud-Native Transformation: Drive the adoption of scalable hybrid, multi-cloud, and serverless frameworks, guiding legacy aerospace software ecosystems into public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- AI & Advanced Tech Strategy: Evaluate, blueprint, and integrate AI/ML capabilities-including Predictive Maintenance models, Generative AI applications, and advanced analytics pipelines-into existing workflows.
- Digital Engineering Lifecycle: Align IT architectures with digital engineering standards, such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or Model-Based Design (MBD).
- Compliance & Security: Ensure cloud and AI architectures comply with stringent aerospace regulatory standards, including ITAR, cybersecurity frameworks, and data sovereignty rules.
Mission and Technical Integration Contract (MTIC) Responsibilities
- Liaise with NASA OCIO for tech policies, agency tech rollouts, government mandates, technology and infrastructure cost models, etc.
- Define and execute governance, change management, security, and compliance frameworks that align with government and external partner requirements and data driven business policies across multiple business segments
- Develop and review business objectives and tech strategy roadmaps for long range planning to guide modernization, scaling, systems integrations, business outcome improvements, and technology adoption
- Educate about and advocate for IT and Digital Solutions architecture commonality across the organization to streamline solution delivery and sustainment
- Align IT and Digital Solutions strategy with NASA's mission objectives and MTIC business objectives
- Lead trade studies for build / buy, tech stack selection, and cost model analysis for technology and solution evaluations and comparisons
- Develop multi-modal architecture design documentation for technical and executive audiences, including cost, technology, infrastructure, data, applications, and analytics
- Manage key relationships with technical stakeholders and customers, both internal and external
- Provide input to PMO about all-employee communications regarding technology policies and announcements
Orion Program Responsibilities
- Provide IT leadership within NASA’s Orion Program with technical advisory, architecture analysis, technology assessments, cybersecurity planning, data management strategy, AI strategy, and modernization planning services
- Create tactical plans (6-12 month timeframe) and success criteria for key IT and technology architecture efforts, including data and platform migrations, on-prem / cloud transitions, change management implementations, security assessments, and organizational consolidations and segmentations
- Participate in rolling tiger teams and strategic advisory working groups to provide technical expertise, domain knowledge, and industry standards to inform and guide program-level planning and decision making within IT and Information Systems scope
- Lead or partner with customer to define, manage, and execute strategic plans (1-3 year, 3-5 year) for key IT and technology architecture efforts, including AI/SI infusion and adoption, cloud-native architecture, edge computing and industry partnerships, vendor relationships, and critical digital systems interfaces
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of agreed-upon IT and technology initiatives, including transparent schedule reporting, technical milestone definition, measurement, and reporting, and adherence to time and resource budgets
- Manage and ensure customer satisfaction via frequent, informed, and technically robust meetings, presentations, debriefings, and automated reporting resources such as dashboards and scheduled insights
