Overview

Ready to put your networking and systems testing skills to work supporting NASA’s International Space Station? Barrios Technology is seeking a Joint Station LAN Lab Test Engineer to join our team in Houston, Texas, supporting the Boeing Engineering Technical Services (BETS-SWS) contract. In this role, you will test and validate network hardware, connected devices, and ethernet communications to help ensure reliable network performance for systems supporting human spaceflight. If you enjoy hands-on technical problem-solving, network troubleshooting, and working with advanced engineering systems, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of space exploration.

With more than 45 years of experience delivering innovative engineering, software, and technology integration solutions, Barrios supports NASA, Boeing, and the growing commercial space industry. As a woman-owned small business, we offer a collaborative, people-first culture that values professional development, teamwork, and work-life balance. Our work spans the International Space Station, Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO), and future lunar exploration programs, including Orion, Gateway, and the Space Launch System. Join Barrios and help advance the technologies that make human spaceflight possible.

Working in the JSL Laboratory at NASA’s Sonny Carter Training Facility in Houston, Texas, you will help verify that network components, hardware, software, and user payload devices function as expected when connected to the ISS network.

This position works closely with network engineers, software teams, hardware specialists, and NASA customers to assess testing requirements, configure laboratory equipment, execute test procedures, analyze network performance, and troubleshoot technical issues. Your work will help ensure the reliability and performance of network equipment and connected devices supporting the International Space Station.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess testing requirements for new and updated network components, hardware, software, and user devices intended for connection to the International Space Station Joint Station LAN.
  • Develop, review, and verify test procedures to ensure network equipment and connected devices meet established technical and performance requirements.
  • Configure laboratory network hardware and software to support test objectives, including network devices and associated user equipment.
  • Execute network tests, evaluate results, and document findings to support verification and validation activities.
  • Analyze network performance metrics, including availability, utilization, throughput, latency, and connectivity, to identify potential issues and verify system performance.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, configuration, and performance problems, working with engineering teams to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Assist network users and engineering teams in understanding Joint Station LAN architecture, technical requirements, laboratory processes, and testing procedures.
  • Use network monitoring and diagnostic tools to evaluate network behavior, investigate anomalies, and support technical problem resolution.
  • Participate in technical meetings with engineering teams, NASA customers, and other stakeholders to communicate test progress, discuss findings, and resolve issues.
  • Review existing test procedures and laboratory processes to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, repeatability, and quality of test results.
  • Maintain accurate test documentation, laboratory configurations, and test results in accordance with applicable program requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional laboratory environment while following established safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required to support program objectives.
