Product Design Engineer – Tax Product Development

The Tax Digital Transformation & Innovation practice at BDO USA delivers human-centered digital experiences for tax professionals and clients. The Senior Product Design Engineer bridges product design and front-end engineering, transforming complex, data-heavy tax workflows into intuitive, scalable, and accessible experiences.

This role is approximately 70% engineering and 30% design. The ideal candidate can move seamlessly from concept and prototype to production-quality implementation, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Design teams across global time zones. You will contribute to our design system, build high-performance user interfaces, and help accelerate product delivery through modern AI-assisted workflows.

Job Duties:

• Translates product concepts and Figma designs into production-ready user experiences
• Builds responsive, accessible, and performant front-end applications
• Contributes to the evolution of shared design systems and reusable component libraries
• Collaborates asynchronously with globally distributed teams in a follow-the-sun model
• Prototypes concepts rapidly to validate ideas and improve decision-making
• Leverages AI-assisted tools and workflows to accelerate design, development, testing, and documentation
• Uses qualitative and quantitative insights to improve user experiences
• Champions accessibility, usability, and consistency across products
• Mentors peers and contribute to design and engineering best practices
• Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Acts as a career advisor and mentor as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree and five (5) or more years of experience in product design engineering, front-end development or UX engineering required; OR High School Diploma/GED and six (6) or more years of experience in product design engineering, front-end development or UX engineering required
• Bachelor’s Degree in focus in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, preferred

Experience:

• Experience translating design concepts into production-quality interfaces, preferred
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional product teams, preferred
• Strong portfolio demonstrating product thinking, interaction design, and front-end implementation, preferred

Software:

• Fluency in modern IDEs (e.g. Visual Studio, Cursor, etc.), required
• React, Angular, TypeScript, Next.js, TailwindCSS, and Figma, preferred
• Design systems and component-based architecture, preferred
• Accessibility standards and responsive design, preferred
• REST APIs and modern web application architecture, preferred
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, and v0, preferred

Language:

• N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Knowledge of leading practices in frontend execution with a data-driven approach to informing decisions
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous and fast-moving environments
• Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $80,000 - $140,000

Maryland Range: $80,000 - $140,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $80,000 - $140,000
