Belmond is a luxury travel company operating hotels, trains, river cruises and safari lodges around the world, headquartered in London. Its history began in 1976 with Hotel Cipriani in Venice, it has run the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express since 1982, and it has been owned by LVMH since 2019, with a portfolio of about 43 properties in 24 countries including Copacabana Palace, Splendido in Portofino and Cap Juluca. Its openings are mostly at its hotels in Italy, Peru and Brazil, for chefs, stewards, housekeepers, spa therapists, porters, maintenance technicians, interns, financial controllers and HR managers.

The Construction Manager will oversee, on the ground, the application of the department's construction standards, ensuring an active and continuous presence at hospitality construction sites across the territory. The role requires a significant amount of time spent travelling and on site, in direct contact with the construction teams and the project teams, to verify adherence to standards and gather the feedback needed to improve site activities. The Construction Manager operates in close complementarity with the project team, never overlapping with its roles and responsibilities, and interfaces constantly with the Head of Projects. This is not a desk-based position: it is a hands-on role that brings independent site verification into the department's process governance.

The scope is to ensure, through direct on-site presence and periodic site visits, that the department's construction standards are correctly applied across hospitality projects, operating in close complementarity with project teams and reporting constantly to the Head of Projects on progress and on feedback gathered in the field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Site presence and visits

  • Conduct regular, systematic visits to ongoing hospitality construction sites, with availability for extensive travel nationally (and internationally where required).
  • Verify on site the application of the department's construction, quality and safety standards.
  • Promptly identify and report deviations, execution issues or delay risks, proposing concrete corrective actions.

Process standardisation applied on site

  • Translate department-level frameworks and standards into checklists and operating procedures usable directly on site.
  • Ensure consistent adoption of standards across different sites, adapting them to each site's specific needs where necessary.

Interface with the project team.

  • Operate in close complementarity with the project team, never overlapping with its roles and responsibilities.
  • Maintain direct, continuous, in-person contact with the General Managers (GMs) and project teams active on site.
  • Gather feedback in the field needed to improve site activities, sharing it with the project team.

Site meetings and reporting

  • Take part in site meetings led by the project team, contributing direct on-site verification and observations, without leading them.
  • Interface with and report constantly to the Head of Projects on the status of visited sites and on feedback gathered.

Unlike a remote or office-based coordination role, this position brings the department's standards directly onto the construction site, through a constant physical presence and systematic site visits. It is the direct, operational point of contact between the process governance defined at department level and its real-world application in the field, with a direct and visible impact on the execution quality of hospitality projects.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
  • Solid, proven experience across numerous construction sites in the hospitality sector (hotels, resorts, high-end hospitality properties).
  • Full availability to travel frequently and continuously, including for extended periods.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes and standards typical of the hospitality sector.
  • Ability to work autonomously in the field, with strong interpersonal skills and hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Fluent in Italian and English.
