Mechatronic Engineer
Do you enjoy being the engineer who brings all the pieces together?
We’re looking for a Mechatronics Engineer who wants to take real technical ownership and work hands-on with the development of advanced instruments. You’ll be responsible for the electrical aspects of our instruments and for integrating the hardware system, motors, sensors, heaters, power, cabling, and electronics together with the mechanics and firmware. Taking new systems from the initial prototype through to reliable, certified, and regulatory compliant products.
Technical owner for these electronics, directing and reviewing partner work. Using Altium Designer or a similar tool to modify existing boards and design small interface or adapter boards when integrating modules.
The role collaborates closely with Mechanical Engineering on packaging, cable routing, motion, and thermal design; with Firmware on embedded hardware and motor control; and with Quality and Regulatory on risk management, electrical safety, EMC, and product certification.
What you’ll do
- Define the hardware system architecture, power distribution, electronic modules, actuators, sensors, communication interfaces, grounding and shielding, selecting these items and off-the-shelf modules based on performance, reliability, cost and availability.•
- Design and specify cables, wiring harnesses and connectors, and work with Mechanical Engineering on routing, mounting of electronics, enclosures and thermal constraints.
- Lead hardware integration and build new systems together with Mechanical and Firmware, from first prototype to verified working instrument, including planning and running electrical and integration verification.
- Troubleshoot and find the root cause of electrical, EMC and integration issues in development, production and the field.
- Specify and review PCB and electronics work done by external partners, and make sure their designs are understood in-house.
- Use Altium Designer or similar to modify existing PCBs and design small interface, adapter or sensor boards.
- Coordinate with Quality on risk assessments, design reviews and verification and validation planning, and ensure electrical safety and EMC compliance by supporting certification with design evidence, test samples, pre-compliance testing and corrective actions.
- Create and maintain hardware architecture documents (block diagrams, interface definitions, wiring diagrams and power budgets) that give a clear technical overview of each product and form the basis for certification files.
- Support production and product care by resolving manufacturing issues and lead the technical side of engineering changes such as component obsolescence and design improvements.
We believe you have
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Automation or Control Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent education combined with substantial relevant industry experience may also be considered.Experience
- Around 5 years of industry experience in electrical, electromechanical or mechatronic hardware development.
- Hands-on experience integrating electronics, motors, sensors and power into complex electromechanical products, from prototype to verified design.
- Experience designing or specifying cables, harnesses and connectors.
- Experience working closely with mechanical engineers and firmware developers in cross-disciplinary teams.
- Experience working technically with external engineering partners, suppliers or contract manufacturers.
- Strong practical understanding of power electronics, mixed signal systems, sensors, electrical actuators, embedded controllers, EMC design, wiring harness design, and interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, USB, and Ethernet
- Ability to define electrical architecture and create schematics, wiring diagrams and interface specifications.
- Working knowledge of Altium Designer or similar, enough to modify PCBs and design small boards.
- EMC design and troubleshooting skills, including grounding, shielding and filtering.
Experience from medtech, biotech, laboratory instrumentation or another regulated industry is a strong advantage. Experience with areas such as motion control, fluid handling, temperature control, imaging or laboratory automation is also valuable.
Who you are
You’re a hands-on problem solver who enjoys understanding how the entire machine works, not just one component.
You take ownership, ask questions and follow technical challenges through to a solution. You’re comfortable working across disciplines and can communicate complex technical topics clearly with engineers, suppliers and colleagues from other areas.
Most importantly, you enjoy building things that need to work in the real world.
The role is based on-site at CELLINK HQ in Gothenburg.
