The Technology Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing the procurement of technology-related goods and services, including hardware, software, SaaS subscriptions, cloud services, telecommunications, IT consulting, and managed services. This role works closely with Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders to ensure procurement activities align with organizational objectives, budget requirements, compliance standards, and supplier management strategies.
The successful candidate will leverage strong commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills to optimize costs, mitigate supplier risks, ensure contractual compliance, and support the organization's technology roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Lead end-to-end sourcing activities for technology-related products and services.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for software, hardware, cloud services, telecommunications, cybersecurity solutions, and professional services.
- Conduct market research and supplier benchmarking to identify cost-saving and value-creation opportunities.
- Manage RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and supplier evaluations.
- Analyze total cost of ownership (TCO) and make sourcing recommendations.
- Contract Negotiation & Management
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, service levels, warranties, maintenance agreements, and licensing models.
- Collaborate with Legal and stakeholders during contract review and execution.
- Ensure contracts comply with company policies and risk management requirements.
- Track contract renewals, expirations, and performance obligations.
- Supplier Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with technology suppliers and service providers.
- Monitor supplier performance through KPIs, scorecards, and business reviews.
- Address supplier-related issues and escalate risks when necessary.
- Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation and performance improvement.
- Financial & Spend Management
- Analyze technology spend and identify cost optimization opportunities.
- Support budget planning, forecasting, and procurement reporting.
- Track savings initiatives and procurement performance metrics.
- Validate pricing structures and invoice accuracy.
- Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Partner with Cybersecurity, IT, and Legal teams to assess supplier risk.
- Support vendor due diligence activities, including data privacy, information security, ESG, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ensure procurement activities follow company policies and governance standards.
- Maintain procurement documentation and records for audit purposes.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to understand technology requirements.
- Provide procurement expertise on technology projects and digital transformation initiatives.
- Support business cases and make-buy analyses.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on technology procurement best practices.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CPSM, SCMP, PMP, ITIL, or related procurement/supply chain certifications are considered an asset
- At least 5 years of procurement, strategic sourcing, vendor management, or supply chain experience.
- Experience procuring technology-related goods and services, including software licensing, SaaS, cloud services, and IT hardware.
- Experience negotiating commercial contracts and managing supplier relationships.
- Familiarity with procurement systems such as Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of technology procurement practices and licensing models.
- Knowledge of SaaS, cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud), cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure procurement.
- Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen.
- Ability to assess supplier risks and commercial impacts.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Candidates based in and around the Calgary area will be strongly preferred.
