Bosch is a German engineering and technology group founded in Stuttgart in 1886 by Robert Bosch as a workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering. It is the largest automotive supplier in the world, making braking, steering, powertrain, sensor and driver assistance systems for nearly every carmaker, and it also produces power tools, home appliances through BSH, industrial drives through Rexroth, and building security and heating systems. Around ninety per cent of the company is owned by a charitable foundation, an ownership structure that gives it unusual freedom to invest across long research cycles including semiconductors and hydrogen.

Bosch has been present in Malaysia since 1923, represented by Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd. In Malaysia, Bosch is active in four business sectors: Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology. The company has three manufacturing sites and research and development offices in Penang, producing automotive electronics, power tools and steering systems, and soon a fourth plant with a final testing centre for sensors and semiconductors. In 2020, Bosch Malaysia generated consolidated sales of RM 518.4 million (108.1 million euros) and currently employs more than 4,000 associates.

PgP5 Plant is Bosch Group’s newest expansion in Malaysia a semiconductor test site in Batu Kawan Penang. The construction began in May 2021, and first series of production commenced in 2023. With the long-term forecasts for growth of semiconductor component quantities, coupled with the front-end production in Bosch’s Dresden facility in Germany, capacity expansion is required for the back-end production, which is the final testing phase of semiconductors and sensors. PgP5 will primarily focus on the final testing of components manufactured at Bosch Automotive Electronics’ fab in Dresden, Germany. The plant will also house R&D and training facilities.

Bosch in Malaysia is a part of the Bosch Group, a leading global supplier of technology and services. The Bosch Group’s strategic objective is to deliver innovations for a connected life. Bosch improves quality of life worldwide with products and services that are innovative and spark enthusiasm. In short, Bosch creates technology that is “Invented for life”.

Role Overview

This role is about making sure a technical laboratory can operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will take ownership of the systems and processes around the laboratory, working at the intersection of engineering, facilities, HSE, quality, IT, and external suppliers.

During the initial phase, you will play a key role in bringing new laboratory infrastructure and equipment into operation. You will coordinate open topics across multiple stakeholders, establish the required processes, and drive the lab toward operational readiness.

Once the laboratory is established, you will ensure that it remains controlled, compliant, documented, and continuously improved.

This role is for you if you are comfortable coordinating complex technical topics, driving open actions to closure, and creating structure where processes are still being built.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Build-Up & Equipment Readiness

  • Coordinate laboratory infrastructure readiness including utilities, ESD, IT/networking, access, safety, and equipment installation requirements
  • Coordinate delivery, installation, commissioning, and acceptance of new laboratory equipment
  • Work with engineering teams, facilities, suppliers, logistics, and other support functions to resolve open topics
  • Track dependencies, risks, responsibilities, and deadlines and actively drive actions to closure
  • Coordinate equipment documentation, calibration, qualification, and handover into regular operation

Lab Operations & Processes

  • Define, implement, and maintain laboratory processes, SOPs, and work instructions
  • Coordinate laboratory operations and ensure equipment and infrastructure remain ready for use
  • Establish clear responsibilities, workflows, and escalation paths
  • Maintain structured documentation and ensure process and equipment changes remain traceable
  • Identify operational gaps and continuously improve laboratory efficiency, robustness, and scalability

Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

  • Establish and coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration activities
  • Maintain an overview of equipment status, upcoming service activities, and open technical issues
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and technical support with internal experts and external suppliers
  • Support spare-part, service, and supplier management
  • Develop sufficient technical understanding of the equipment to recognize abnormal behavior and initiate the appropriate escalation

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure laboratory activities comply with HSE, ESD, quality, and audit requirements
  • Coordinate risk assessments, safety documentation, and required approvals
  • Ensure equipment and laboratory processes meet applicable calibration, documentation, and traceability requirements
  • Prepare the laboratory for internal and external audits
  • Drive corrective actions resulting from audits, incidents, or identified process gaps

Coordination & Interfaces

  • Act as the central interface between the laboratory and engineering, facilities, HSE, quality, IT, logistics, purchasing, and suppliers
  • Coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders and ensure responsibilities are clear
  • Maintain transparency on laboratory readiness, risks, dependencies, and open actions
  • Support equipment procurement, transfers, logistics, and supplier activities
  • Ensure important issues are escalated early and followed through to resolution

Required Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Measurement Engineering, Physics, or a similar technical field
  • Experience working in an engineering laboratory, test environment, production/fab environment, or similar technical organization
  • Good understanding of technical equipment and laboratory infrastructure
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English

What We Expect You to Be Comfortable With

  • Coordinating several technical topics and stakeholders in parallel
  • Following open actions until they are actually closed
  • Working with engineering equipment, suppliers, and technical service providers
  • Creating processes, documentation, and structure where these do not yet exist
  • Working across organizational boundaries and clarifying unclear responsibilities
  • Recognizing when a technical issue requires escalation to a specialist
  • Taking ownership of problems and actively driving them toward resolution

Nice to Have

  • Experience with measurement or automated test equipment
  • Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, or qualification
  • Knowledge of ESD, HSE, calibration, MSA, or quality systems
  • Experience with preventive maintenance and equipment management
  • Experience with technical purchasing, logistics, or supplier coordination
  • Basic understanding of electronics, measurement hardware, or software
  • Experience in semiconductor, electronics, or other high-tech manufacturing environments

What You Get

  • Real ownership of how a technical laboratory is built and operated
  • Opportunity to shape laboratory processes and standards from the beginning
  • Exposure to complex, multidisciplinary engineering equipment and technologies
  • Close collaboration with international engineering teams and suppliers
  • A role where your work has a direct impact on laboratory readiness and effectiveness

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Equipment and infrastructure are ready when they are needed
  • Open topics have clear owners, deadlines, and follow-up
  • Laboratory processes are documented, repeatable, and auditable
  • Maintenance, calibration, safety, and compliance activities are under control
  • Engineers can focus on engineering because the laboratory around them works reliably
  • Problems are identified early and driven to resolution instead of becoming recurring issues
  • Benefits: Company Insurances, Leave Entitlement, Transport Allowance, Flexi Work hours, Meal Subsidy, competitive employer EPF contribution, Performance Bonus, Contractual Bonus etc.
  • Work in a fast-growing semiconductor environment.
  • Take ownership of impactful tasks and profit from Career development opportunities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on a global scale.
  • Be part of a strong, intercultural team with high team spirit
