About us
Bristol Care Homes is committed to providing the best care to our residents and technology and systems are central to our success. We have recently developed and are rolling out our own Care Planning system, Care 4 Care Plan, which covers care planning, risk alerts, wound care, incident reporting and CQC compliance across four homes. Around it sit Power Platform apps, integrations with CareHQ, Microsoft 365 and Planday, and Raspberry Pi devices in the homes.
We are looking for an experienced Applications Support Engineer to keep our systems running day to day and be the first person our homes turn to when something isn't working. This isn't a greenfield build role: you'll maintain, monitor, fix and improve software that already exists.
What we offer
- Hybrid working in Bristol with regular visits to our 4 homes
Mentoring with a clear path into a developer role as your skills grow
Training and certification funding
Work that directly improves care for residents
A small team where your work is visible and matters
Key responsibilities:
Provide first- and second-line support to home managers and staff, logging, prioritising and resolving issues.
Monitor Care 4 Care Plan and our Azure services (Functions, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage), investigating errors through logs and alerts.
Diagnose and fix bugs in existing TypeScript and Python code, including API integration scripts for CareHQ, Microsoft Graph and Planday.
Maintain Power Apps and Power Automate flows and keep Power BI reports refreshing correctly.
Look after Raspberry Pi devices in the homes, including nurse call and media devices: updates, restarts, and on-site checks.
Manage user accounts, access and permissions across our systems.
Write and maintain runbooks and documentation so no fix depends on one person's memory.
Cover system support when the Technical Lead is on leave, escalating anything with clinical risk promptly.
Help onboard and support external customers as we sell the platform more widely.
Follow data protection and information governance requirements (UK GDPR, DSPT) in everything you do.
Essential skills and experience
At least 2 years in application support, IT support with scripting, or a junior developer role
Able to read, debug and make small fixes in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python
Comfortable working with REST APIs, JSON and log files to trace a problem
Working knowledge of a cloud platform, ideally Microsoft Azure
Basic Linux command-line skills
Familiar with Git for version control
Clear, patient communicator who can explain technical issues to non-technical care staff
Methodical and careful, especially where resident data is involved
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, for visits to the homes
Hours
- Full time
Location
- Bristol - hybrid, with regular visits to our four homes
Pay
- £35,000-£42,000 per annum
