Controls Engineer I (EC001)

Description

Brooks is seeking qualified candidates to work with a team of experienced controls engineers developing industry-leading robotic platforms for the semiconductor industry. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge robot designs, motion control systems, and advanced automation technologies while building a strong foundation in robotics and controls engineering.

The Controls Engineer I will contribute to the development, testing, characterization, and support of robot control systems. Under the guidance of senior engineers, the candidate will gain hands-on experience with motion control algorithms, robotic system performance evaluation, software development, and laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

• Support the tuning and optimization of robot motion control parameters.
• Assist in characterizing servo performance, system stability, throughput, and payload vibration.
• Perform design verification testing and collect performance data.
• Assist with software configuration, testing, release activities, and documentation.
• Develop tools and scripts for automated data collection and analysis using MATLAB and other engineering tools.
• Support troubleshooting of controls, software, electrical, and electromechanical system issues.
• Participate in laboratory testing using dynamic signal analyzers and other instrumentation.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of robot control algorithms.
• Work closely with mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and systems engineers.
• Support customer and manufacturing issue investigations as needed.

Required Skills

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on engineer with strong analytical skills and an interest in robotics and automation.

• Knowledge of control theory and dynamic systems through coursework, research, internships, or project experience.
• Exposure to robotics, mechatronics, motion control, or related disciplines.
• Basic programming experience in C/C++.
• Familiarity with MATLAB or similar engineering analysis tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn complex electromechanical systems quickly.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Experience using laboratory equipment is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Education & Experience

• BSEE, BSME, BS Robotics Engineering, or related engineering degree with 0 to 2 years of experience.
• MS degree with relevant coursework or research experience is a plus.

Compensation

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
