Brunswick Group is a global strategic communications and critical issues advisory firm founded in London in 1987, advising companies on financial communications, public affairs, crises and stakeholder relations. Structured as a partnership that has grown organically, it operates as a one-firm firm without individual profit centers from 27 offices in 18 countries, including New York, Washington, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney. It hires associates, account directors and directors across financial, public affairs, defence and sector practices, along with interns, AI and security engineers and finance and support staff.

Opportunity

For many years, our work in Germany has focused on advising clients across the defence sector. We develop tailored solutions for C-suite executives and other senior decision-makers, helping them navigate a rapidly evolving environment and seize emerging opportunities.

Against a backdrop of shifting geopolitical dynamics, changing defence policy priorities, and rapid technological advancement, we support companies around the world in turning challenges into opportunities and achieving sustainable growth in security-critical environments. As the sector continues to attract significant investor interest, our expertise in capital markets and investor engagement provides clients with valuable insights for navigating key financial events.

As our Defence practice continues to grow, we are seeking a Director based in Berlin who will contribute to the continued growth of this important practice through client advisory work and business development.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in the defence industry and the ability to engage with its most pressing issues. They will have a strong network across government, media, industry associations and the private sector, together with a proven ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

The ability to engage confidently and discreetly with senior decision-makers on strategic mandates, combined with a strong understanding of political strategy and excellent writing and editorial skills, will enable the successful candidate to deliver exceptional client service.

At Brunswick, Directors play a vital leadership role. They are role models for junior colleagues and actively support their development and progression.

About the Role

The Director will take on a broad range of responsibilities, including:

  • Strengthening the firm's advisory capabilities through access to and engagement with key stakeholders in Berlin, across Germany and internationally.
  • Building and enhancing Brunswick's reputation among senior decision-makers, political stakeholders and the media through an active presence in relevant networks.
  • Representing Brunswick's strategic advisory capabilities to clients and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting a Partner in developing new client mandates and advising senior corporate decision-makers (e.g. CEOs and Board members).
  • Advisory work will include sector-specific policy developments, financial transactions, geopolitical developments, business-critical situations and strategic support for companies' business development.
  • Actively contributing to Brunswick's collaborative culture, ensuring colleagues are empowered to perform at their best while working effectively across teams.
  • Leading large and complex projects independently, delegating work effectively while remaining actively involved in execution, and mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
  • Supporting new business development and, over time, independently originating and growing client relationships with a focus on strategic communications advisory.

What We’re Looking For

  • A university degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 5-10 years' experience, together with a strong professional network in the defence sector and across relevant policy areas, with the ability to further develop that network.
  • Professional experience in a relevant field such as management consulting, M&A advisory, strategic communications consulting or media.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a sound understanding of micro- and macroeconomic developments and their impact on organisations.
  • High emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A discreet, professional and trustworthy approach.
  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail and a client-service mindset.
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
