Job Title: Principal Product Manager, Law Enforcement Officer Experience

Location: Austin, TX - US

At BusPatrol, we’re on a mission to make school transportation safer for children and communities. As a leader in AI-powered safety solutions, we bring cutting-edge technology-AI, machine learning, and IoT-to school buses across North America. We’re the most trusted stop-arm safety program globally, delivering transparency and safety at scale. In short, this is purpose-driven work that measurably changes behavior in the communities we serve.

The Opportunity:

If you’re a product leader who is energized by hard human-in-the-loop problems, including capturing data and turning that into high trust evidence packages that lead to defensible decisions-this is your role. BusPatrol is investing in the experience that sits at the heart of our business: serving Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs), making their lives easier, optimizing the Court partnership, and delivering measurable safety outcomes.

We are North America’s leader in automated school bus, student, and community safety solutions protecting more than nearly half a million students across 25 states. We are growing and expanding our footprint into exciting new use cases. This role will be central to building our newest use case.

As Principal Product Manager, Law Enforcement Experience, you will own one of BusPatrol’s most mission-critical challenges end-to-end. This is fundamentally a high-volume, high-stakes decision-UX challenge at the center of our enforcement platform.

Key Outcomes include:

  • Defining a high-trust experience for law enforcement officers that turns raw captured events into fast, confident, and defensible decisions

  • Define standard work for a high-confidence evidence package

  • Identifying where automation can remove friction and improve throughput in partnership with the AI/Automation team

  • Preserving the human in the loop, where judgment, accountability, and trust matter most

  • Establish the metrics, instrumentation, and feedback loops that make review quality, speed, and consistency measurable while continuously improving

Reporting to the Director of Product Management, you will work across Product, Design, User Research, Engineering, Legal, and other critical partners to build the systems, workflows, and standards that make the right decision easier, faster, and more defensible.

Responsibilities

Own the Review & Approval Experience

  • Set and drive the end-to-end vision for how captured evidence is assembled, presented, reviewed, and approved.

  • Map the full reviewer/approver journey, find the friction, and relentlessly remove the steps, clicks, and ambiguity that slow people down or erode trust.

  • Treat the human decision as the product. Every design choice should make the right call easier and the wrong call harder.

Define the Evidence Package

  • Decide what a reviewable package must contain to support a confident, defensible decision-and what is noise.

  • Deeply listen to our LEO partners and Legal team to understand their unique needs and partner preferences

  • Ensure packages arrive complete, well-ordered, and self-explanatory, so reviewers spend their attention deciding, not hunting for context.

Design for Speed and Confidence

  • Reduce cognitive load at every turn: clear hierarchy, sensible defaults, and an interface that guides reviewers toward accurate decisions.

  • Build for high volume without sacrificing care-the experience must scale up to 100,000 reviews per day while keeping each decision trustworthy.

  • Design for the hard stuff: edge cases, ambiguity, and the moments where a reviewer needs to slow down and look closer all while preserving compliance.

Build the Audit, Quality & Feedback Loop

  • Instrument the experience so review speed, accuracy, consistency, and rework are measurable and visible.

  • Build robust auditability into every decision, with clear decision logs, reason codes, evidence lineage, and traceable overrides so every outcome is transparent, defensible, and easy to review.

  • Close the loop between reviewer decisions and upstream capture and modeling, so the system gets better at sending only what’s worth a human’s time.

  • Use real reviewer/approver behavior-not assumptions-to prioritize what to build next.

Lead Across the Organization

  • Translate a complex, ambiguous problem space into a clear roadmap and a compelling, well-reasoned vision senior leaders can rally behind.

  • Influence and align key stakeholders such as Leadership, Engineering, Research, Design, Operations, and Partners/Customers without relying on direct authority.

  • Set the bar for product craft on the team and mentor other product managers in discovery, prioritization, and execution.

What You Bring:

  • 8+ years in product management, with a track record of owning a significant product domain or platform end to end.

  • Deep experience designing workflow, operational, or review tooling-products where a human makes a high-stakes decision on top of data, and speed and accuracy both matter.

  • A strong point of view on human-in-the-loop and decision-UX design: how to reduce cognitive load, build trust, and guide people to the right outcome quickly.

  • Demonstrated ability to turn an ambiguous, high-volume problem into a clear product strategy-and to ship it, not just present it.

  • Excellent written communication: you can turn a messy problem into a one-page narrative a senior audience can act on.

  • Versatile and polished presentation skills: in a single day, you might break down an epic for the development team's understanding, present roadmap updates to the C-Suite, or solicit honest user feedback from a trusted law enforcement partner

  • Strong data and analytical instincts: you define the metrics that matter, instrument them, tell the data story, and let real behavior guide the roadmap.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward structured, systems thinking. You create clarity where there is none.

  • Excellent experimentation skills: you are comfortable with the design, setup, administration, measurement, and reporting of learnings and business value delivery.

  • Proven ability to influence and align senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners without direct authority.

  • Fluency with modern AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) in your daily work for research, analysis, drafting, and prototyping-this team ships, it doesn’t just deck.

  • A bias for action and the judgment to know when to move fast and when to slow down and get it right.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with public-sector, municipal, or Business-to-Government customers and procurement dynamics.

  • Experience working directly with law enforcement and/or public safety representatives

  • Experience with ML-assisted or computer-vision-driven review pipelines, where model output is verified by human in the loop.

  • Background in a high-volume, high-stakes review domain-trust and safety, content moderation, claims adjudication, fraud review, medical imaging review, or e-discovery.

  • Experience building products that must withstand scrutiny-where decisions are audited, contested, or relied upon by external parties.

  • Master’s (or MBA) in a closely related discipline (product, technology management, design, analytics, or similar).

  • An appreciation for the utilization of AI to support public safety and a genuine point of view on where AI changes the economics of human review.
