CACI International is an American technology company founded in 1962 that works almost entirely for United States defence, intelligence and federal civilian agencies. It has moved from being a conventional IT services contractor toward supplying its own technology, with a substantial expeditionary electronic warfare and signals intelligence product line, photonics and optical communications for space, and secure network modernisation. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the company employs more than twenty thousand people, the majority holding security clearances, and has grown through a steady programme of acquisitions that add differentiated technology rather than headcount alone.

The Multimodal Routing Engineer works closely with Government stakeholders, strategic mobility planners, movement control personnel, port and airfield operations coordinators, supply chain analysts, logistics planners, transportation providers, data analysts, host-nation partners, and mission partners to develop primary, alternate, contingency, and emergency routing options. The position supports Joint Theater Distribution Centers (JTDCs), Intermediate Staging Bases (ISBs), ports, airfields, warehouses, staging areas, prepositioned stocks, and forward operating locations while integrating transportation capacity, infrastructure, access, threat, weather, customs, handling, and delivery-time considerations into executable routing solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, analyze, and optimize multimodal routing solutions for personnel, equipment, cargo, and sustainment commodities moving through air, maritime, ground, and intermodal transportation networks.
  • Design primary, alternate, contingency, and emergency (PACE) routing options that maintain logistics continuity during disrupted, degraded, contested, or denied operations.
  • Analyze theater Lines of Communication (LOCs), transportation nodes, corridors, ports, airfields, road networks, staging areas, and transfer points to identify optimal movement paths.
  • Evaluate route capacity, transit time, cost, infrastructure limitations, handling requirements, transportation availability, customs constraints, access permissions, weather, and operational risk.
  • Synchronize strategic and intra-theater movement requirements with sealift, airlift, surface transportation, contracted transportation, and other available distribution capabilities.
  • Develop routing plans supporting force deployment, redeployment, RSOI, sustainment, contingency operations, exercises, humanitarian assistance/disaster response, and emergent missions.
  • Coordinate with movement control teams, port operations coordinators, airfield operations coordinators, strategic mobility planners, supply chain personnel, and operational planners to deconflict and prioritize movement requirements.
  • Analyze transportation demand, cargo characteristics, delivery priorities, node capacities, material handling requirements, and transportation schedules to recommend efficient mode and route combinations.
  • Support routing of critical sustainment commodities, including fuel, ammunition, repair parts, medical materiel, subsistence, and other mission-essential supplies.
  • Assess chokepoints, single points of failure, infrastructure vulnerabilities, adversary threats, and transportation shortfalls; develop routing alternatives and mitigation recommendations.
  • Support Joint Theater Distribution Center (JTDC) and Intermediate Staging Base (ISB) operations by optimizing inbound, outbound, transshipment, staging, and onward movement routes.
  • Integrate prepositioned stocks, warehouse locations, inventory positions, demand forecasts, and distribution priorities into theater routing and distribution planning.
  • Apply geospatial analysis, network analysis, optimization techniques, transportation modeling, and data visualization to evaluate route feasibility and performance.
  • Develop route matrices, movement timelines, transportation network maps, capacity assessments, risk indicators, dashboards, and executive decision-support products.
  • Coordinate with host-nation, coalition, commercial, and Government transportation stakeholders to identify access requirements, routing restrictions, cross-border considerations, and available transportation capabilities.
  • Support customs, diplomatic clearance, port clearance, airfield access, hazardous material, oversized cargo, and special-handling considerations affecting route selection and execution.
  • Monitor transportation network status and recommend dynamic rerouting in response to changing mission priorities, infrastructure outages, weather, congestion, threat conditions, or transportation availability.
  • Validate routing assumptions and recommendations using authoritative logistics, transportation, geospatial, operational, and intelligence-informed data as authorized and appropriate.
  • Document routing methodologies, assumptions, constraints, risks, alternatives, and recommendations in technical analyses, operational plans, SOPs, and briefings.
  • Provide senior-level technical guidance and mentorship to logistics planners and analysts supporting multimodal routing, distribution planning, and theater movement operations.

  • Experience supporting deployment, redeployment, RSOI, sustainment, contingency, or theater distribution planning within a Joint, Service,Combatant Command, or comparable operational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop routing alternatives, assess logistics risk, resolve transportation constraints, and provide actionable recommendations to operational and senior Government stakeholders.
  • Experience with transportation, geospatial, logistics planning, asset visibility, or analytical tools used to support movement planning and distribution operations.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance required to start.

Desired:

  • Experience with JOPES, GCCS-J, TC-AIMS II, GATES, IBS, ICODES, ArcGIS, Power BI, Microsoft Excel, SmarTrack, or comparable transportation, logistics, and geospatial planning tools.
  • Knowledge of Joint logistics, strategic mobility, theater distribution, RSOI, Defense Transportation Regulation requirements, contested logistics, and Indo-Pacific transportation networks.
  • Experience supporting route planning involving ports, airfields, host-nation access, customs, hazardous materials, oversized cargo, or commercial transportation providers.
