What you'll be doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Financial Crimes and Enterprise Risk Technology. You’ll be at the heart of CIBC’s digital transformation, successfully delivering complex, enterprise-scale projects involving multiple back-end systems. As the Consultant, Application Developer (Data Engineer), you’ll exercise significant judgement and autonomy, own key technical decisions, lead impact analysis and design reviews, resolve complex production issues, optimize platform cost and performance, and partner with architecture, governance, security, business, and delivery stakeholders to translate requirements into sustainable data solutions.

You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

• Technical Management and Engineering Excellence - Lead the end-to-end technical design and delivery of enterprise data pipelines, reusable frameworks, and governed data products on Azure Databricks. Define and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, version control, deployment, documentation, security, monitoring, and supportability.
• Azure Databricks and Lakehouse Engineering- Architect, build, test, deploy, and support production-grade batch and streaming pipelines using Azure Databricks, Spark/PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake, Auto Loader, Structured Streaming, and Lakeflow. Establish automated testing and CI/CD practices using Git-based workflows and Databricks deployment capabilities, enabling repeatable promotion across development, test, and production environments.
• Relationship Management- Build strong relationships and partnerships with technical team members, business stakeholders, data owners, governance teams, clients, vendors, and peers. Work closely with business partners to ensure applications, systems, data pipelines, and supporting processes operate effectively, efficiently, and securely.

Who you are

• You can demonstrate 5-8 years experience in. Progressive data engineering experience, including technical leadership of data solutions. Hands-on experience with Databricks and Spark, including recent delivery and support of production-grade pipelines. Strong expertise in delivering governed lakehouse solutions with Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, batch and streaming ingestion, orchestration, monitoring, and performance optimization. Strong exposure in implementing automated testing and CI/CD for Databricks workloads across multiple environment. Good knowledge on Azure data services, enterprise production support, Agile delivery, and modernization from legacy ETL platforms such as Informatica.
