What You’ll Do:

• Partner with software engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-performing, quality features for 100M+ customers that are engaging, purposeful and powerful in their simplicity
• Partner with product leaders to influence multi-quarter engineering roadmaps (e.g., new capability builds, performance optimization, platform modernization) ensuring alignment with broader business goals
• Architect, build, and maintain core components and shared libraries that act as a force multiplier for multiple teams within your product area
• Contribute to standards for cross-platform consistency, scalability, and accessibility across mobile experiences
• Serve as a subject matter expert in critical areas like mobile performance, networking, or platform-specific UI frameworks, influencing standards across teams
• Partner with infrastructure and backend teams to define and improve mobile CI/CD, observability, and reliability engineering practices, standardizing release practices
• Define strategies for leveraging agentic AI tools across multiple teams, including specialized agents, skills and tools built on open standards (e.g., Model Context Protocol), to standardize workflows
• Mentor and guide senior engineers in building AI-native workflows, shaping the next generation of technical leaders proficient in agentic coding
• Apply mastery of the modern mobile ecosystem (including deep platform-specific capabilities and advanced UI patterns) to make complex, high-leverage, hands-on technical contributions that solve the most challenging problems within your product area

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• At least 6 years of professional experience in software engineering, mobile architectural design and project execution across multiple teams (internship experience does not apply)
• At least 6 years of experience building native mobile applications for Android or iOS
• At least 3 years of experience architecting or leading the development of federated native mobile applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Significant experience building native mobile applications for Android or iOS
• Proven experience with modern native UI frameworks (e.g., SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose)
• Proven experience with designing and building automated testing suites for mobile (e.g., Swift Testing, XCUI, JUnit, Espresso)
• Proven experience with modular architecture and modern state management patterns
• Proven experience with performance tuning and optimization on native mobile platforms
• Experience providing technical leadership for a large product area, influencing its technical vision and roadmap
• Experience leading the design of multi-team components or contributing to shared SDKs
• Experience developing and scaling client Backend-for-Frontends (BFFs) and defining efficient data-fetching strategies using protocols like gRPC/Protobuf
• Working knowledge of on-device ML frameworks (e.g., CoreML, TensorFlow Lite)
• Expertise in release health indicators, metrics-driven staged rollout, and feature flag strategies
• Expertise with agentic AI coding tools and developer productivity patterns

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $229,900 - $262,400 for Mobile Engineer 5

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
