Sr. Java Engineer

A skilled and driven Sr. / Lead Java Engineer to design, build, and scale backend systems that power SprintPay, our payment solution for the global logistics industry. You'll take ownership of complex services end-to-end, make sound architectural calls, write high-quality production code, and help raise the bar for engineering practices across the team. This role is based in our Hyderabad office on a hybrid schedule.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Technical Ownership:

• Design, build, and own backend services and APIs within the SprintPay platform.
• Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code and review PRs with rigor and depth.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, design reviews, and technical roadmap planning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, and participate in on-call rotations.

Mentorship and Collaboration:

• Mentor and guide engineers through pairing, code reviews, and design walkthroughs.
• Partner closely with product managers, QA, and cross-functional teams to deliver features.
• Help establish and uphold engineering best practices, coding standards, and documentation.
• Support hiring efforts by interviewing candidates and helping define the technical bar.

Delivery and Quality:

• Champion testing, observability, and CI/CD practices within the team.
• Help set and track reliability goals (SLIs/SLOs); contribute to postmortems and follow-ups.
• Leverage AI tooling to accelerate delivery; code, testing, docs, and operations.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (8+ years preferred for lead-level candidates), including experience leading features or technical initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction within a team.
• Strong communicator; comfortable owning ambiguous, complex problems end-to-end.
• Experience in startup or high-growth SaaS environments is a plus.

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in Java and backend API design (Spring Boot or similar).
• Solid experience with relational database design and query optimization, ideally MySQL.
• Good understanding of distributed systems, fault tolerance, and scalability patterns.
• Working knowledge of containers, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud deployment (Azure preferred).
• Experience with payment systems or other high-reliability platforms is a strong plus.
• Experience using AI tools to improve delivery: code, testing, docs, and operations.
