This is a pivotal, hands-on role at the intersection of production, R&D, and customer support. You will be one of the first dedicated Field Service Engineers at Cellply, with the opportunity to help shape how we deliver, install, and maintain complex analytical instruments in the field.

In the near term, the role combines in-house and on-site work: you will test and qualify instruments before they ship, support production in resolving technical issues, and perform maintenance both in-house and at customer sites. As our installed base grows, the role will become increasingly field-focused, with installation, maintenance, and repair at customer sites becoming the core of the job, with travel evolving from below 50% today to above 50% over time. You will operate primarily across Europe and the Middle East, with possible expansion to North America and APAC as our footprint grows.

You will be a key link between customers, production, and the engineering team, ensuring system uptime and building trusted relationships with the scientists who rely on our technology.

Responsibilities:

In-house

  • Test, verify, and qualify instruments before installation, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Support the production team in diagnosing and resolving technical issues on manufactured systems.
  • Perform calibration and maintenance of instruments in-house.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the procedures and tools used during testing, calibration, and installation.
  • Collaborate with R&D and engineering to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Interface with external suppliers to manage technical and component issues.
  • Capture customer insights and identify opportunities for product and process improvement.

In the field / customer-facing

  • Perform on-site installations, preventive and corrective maintenance activities, repairs, and upgrades of VivaCyte systems at customer sites.
  • Provide responsive, high-quality technical support to customers, both remotely and on-site.
  • Manage logistics for systems, spare parts, and tools to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Plan, document, and track all service activities.

Requirements

  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation/Mechatronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, ideally in field service or in the manufacture and testing of complex analytical, life-science, or high-tech instrumentation.
  • Solid, hands-on, multidisciplinary technical ability across mechanical and electrical systems; experience with optical/imaging units or microfluidics is a strong plus.
  • Good written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel (currently below 50%, expected to grow above 50%).
  • A practical attitude for prototyping, mechanical assembly, and test execution.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mindset.
  • Self-starter, organized, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Experience with service ticketing or service-management systems is a plus.

Benefits

  • Health Insurance
  • Training and development on the field and through internal know-how transfer, and the chance to grow with the company as our service organization scales internationally
  • Exposure to breakthrough innovation in advanced therapies
