CERN is the world’s leading laboratory for particle physics, where scientists study the fundamental constituents of matter and the forces that govern the universe. Located near Geneva, it operates the Large Hadron Collider, the largest and most powerful particle accelerator ever built, to conduct groundbreaking research into the origin of matter. Beyond pure science, the organization is also famous for pioneering technological innovations, including the invention of the World Wide Web, which continue to have a massive global impact.

Are you interested in developing measurement, control and monitoring tools that are used on real scientific infrastructure?

You will join a team working on various measurement instrumentation and control applications used to operate, supervise, and improve CERN systems. You will contribute to the development and evolution of software built with LabVIEW and Python, supporting both existing operational tools and new developments. This includes applications used for vacuum measurements, data logging, gas analysis and the integration of instrumentation into CERN's control environment. The role also includes work related to new installations and upgrades, where reliable monitoring, automation and safe operation are essential.

This is an opportunity to work close to equipment, users and experts, and to contribute to tools that are directly relevant for daily operation, commissioning and future upgrades. You will gain practical experience in measurement, controls, software integration, instrumentation and test environments, while learning CERN working methods and standards in a highly collaborative setting.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain applications for monitoring and control of vacuum instrumentation using LabVIEW and Python.
  • Contribute to software used with gas analysers, pressure gauges and related vacuum equipment.
  • Improve tools for acquisition, logging, analysis and visualisation of various data.
  • Participate in the integration of new instruments and new functionalities into the existing control infrastructure.
  • Support testing, validation and deployment of software on operational systems.
  • Work with engineers, technicians and users to translate operational needs into robust software solutions.
  • Document developments, configurations and procedures on the team's internal documentation platforms.
  • Support installed applications and participate in their follow-up and maintenance.
