What you have

Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology (WAS Tech) is an organization within Schwab Technology Services aligned to support the technology needs of Wealth and Advice Solutions (WAS) business which is a growth area for Schwab.

This newly created Sr. Architect role will drive technical excellence and engineering leadership to accelerate the strategic growth of the WAS business. As an Architect, you will enable WAS Tech to achieve consistent, predictable, high-quality delivery by establishing engineering best practices, designing scalable automation frameworks, and providing technical oversight and guidance across software development and testing initiatives. You'll serve as both a hands-on technical expert and engineering leader, mentoring development teams while driving architectural decisions. You will lead the delivery of complex, high-impact solutions that align with business objectives, fostering technical innovation in our collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide at least three core duties of this role

* Design, develop, and deliver solutions as part of an Agile Scrum team

* Leverage understanding of software development principles and practices to help mentor and coach junior team members

* Support and triage issues and participate in production support to help develop resilient and secure systems to prevent issues that impact on our clients.

* Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to define strategy and scope of software requirements (decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks)

* Delivering new concepts and features, working alongside development peers in an agile environment

* Utilize AI and other automated software test tools and frameworks such as test-driven development to achieve the highest quality in software delivery

Technical Expertise and Educational Requirements

• Identify, prioritize and deliver on key technologies that will serve as the architectural foundations supporting future capabilities for the business unit.
• Execute on technology blueprints and strategies laid out by enterprise and stakeholders
• Collaborate with key business and operational leaders to develop architectural roadmaps
• Support and drive technology approaches focused on business outcomes
• Drive innovation to demonstrably lower IT cost and enhance profitability through transformative solutions
• Lead and mentor teams to develop and deliver well-engineered business systems via iterative solutions that include POCs and Prototypes in an agile development environment
• Refine existing process, culture and mindset for a product focused delivery to accommodate identification and implementations of patterns and reusable frameworks

What experience and skills are DESIRED, but are not REQUIRED to perform this role today?

Technical nice-to-haves (bullet points)

• BS + 12 years / MS + 8 years (Computer Science or related field) in progressive roles within Financial IT culminating in technology leadership positions
• 5+ years leading architecture initiatives and deliverables in an IT Financial vertical
• Current hands on development, mentorship and management experience through at least 8 years in a complex software development roles
• Diverse experience building scalable, reliable and high-performance applications using full stack application development technologies, enterprise level cloud technology, non-functional pattern implementations, enterprise architectural patterns, persistence technology including relational and NoSQL
• Strong Data strategy and delivery experience utilizing native on-prem and cloud technologies
• Excellent influence based inter personal skills essential for success
• Proven record of delivering high quality innovative solutions to complex problems within agreed upon budgets and timeframes
• Substantiated experience raising the bar on staff delivery performance and cultivating high performance work environments
