Trauma Registry Data Collection Specialist

As a Trauma Registry Data Collection Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our nationally recognized trauma program by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of trauma data used to drive quality improvement, performance measurement, accreditation, research, and ultimately, better patient outcomes.

What You'll Do

As a member of the Trauma Program team, you will:

  • Review and analyze medical records to identify trauma cases meeting national inclusion criteria.
  • Abstract complex clinical data and enter information into the trauma registry database accurately and efficiently.
  • Assign and sequence ICD-10 injury and procedure codes in accordance with established coding guidelines.
  • Apply diagnostic, operative, laboratory, pathology, radiology, and other clinical findings to accurately capture trauma-related injuries and procedures.
  • Support injury severity scoring, mortality reporting, quality metrics, and trauma program performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor charts to identify care gaps and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Perform data validation and quality reviews to ensure the integrity and accuracy of registry information.
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports that support operational, regulatory, and quality improvement needs.
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and institutional data standards.
  • Collaborate with trauma leadership, clinical teams, and data professionals to support ongoing trauma program excellence.

Your expertise will directly influence the quality and effectiveness of trauma services across our health system.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree.
  • Two years of clerical or administrative experience in an acute care healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while reviewing complex medical records.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and manage multiple responsibilities.

Preferred

  • Degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or a related field.
  • Experience working with a trauma registry.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
  • Knowledge of:
    • ICD-10 coding
    • Trauma injury coding
    • Data abstraction and registry databases
    • Performance improvement methodologies
    • Physiology and disease processes
    • Clinical patient care workflows
    • Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) coding

Professional Development

We are committed to your professional growth. Within 12 months of orientation, the successful candidate will obtain the following specialized trauma registry certifications:

  • Trauma Registry Course (American Trauma Society)
  • ICD-10 Trauma Injury Coding Course (American Trauma Society)
  • Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Course and Certification (Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine)

Flexible Schedule

  • This position affords a flexible schedule with a hybrid of on-site and remote after one year. This is a part-time position of day shift of 20 hours per week.

Hourly Pay Range: $22.74 - $34.11This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
