Why This Role Matters
The Casual Art Technician provides hands-on art handling and operational support within Christie’s King Street galleries, collection areas, and warehouse spaces. Working as part of the Operations team, the role supports the safe movement, installation, deinstallation, packing, and preparation of artworks for auctions, exhibitions, client collections, and other business activities.
This is a flexible, casual position with hours offered in line with operational requirements and business needs.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Safely handle, move, install, deinstall, and pack artworks of varying sizes and media.
- Assist with the movement of property between galleries, viewing spaces, photography areas, collection areas, and warehouse locations within King Street.
- Support auction exhibitions, pre-sale views, and gallery installations.
- Prepare and pack property for transportation, collection, and storage.
- Follow Christie’s art handling standards and best practices at all times.
- Report any damage, concerns, or handling risks immediately to a supervisor or manager.
- Assist with incoming and outgoing property as required.
- Support inventory and stock-check activities when requested.
- Maintain clean, organised, and safe working areas.
- Support loading and unloading activities relating to deliveries and collections.
- Work collaboratively with specialists, photographers, security teams, and other operational departments.
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Represent Christie’s professionally when interacting with clients, visitors, and contractors.
What you’ll bring to the team
- Previous experience handling fine art, antiques, or high-value objects is desirable.
- Understanding of safe manual handling and art handling practices.
- Experience with installation, deinstallation, packing, and movement of artworks preferred.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Positive attitude and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of care.
- Commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices.
Additional Information
- This is a casual, non-guaranteed hours position. You will not be entitled to Christie’s employee benefits.
- Evening and weekend work may be required during busy auction, exhibition, and installation periods.
Hourly Rate: £15-18 depending on experience
