IPL Underwriter, NUC
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for meeting production and profitability targets by underwriting new business, endorsements, and renewals in line with the underwriting criteria issued by the Personal Lines Department. You will also be expected to build relationships with new producers and continue servicing existing producers where allocations are included in the individual’s annual goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor profitability of portfolio and provide constructive feedback on steps to improve if required Evaluate, accept or decline new business, endorsements or renewal business based on underwriting guidelines
- Collate underwriting information and refer risks outside the scope of authorities issued or the underwriting guidelines to the Unit Manager with recommendations
- Monitor competitors’ products and recommend changes to our wording to sustain competitive advantage
- Where applicable, establish and build new relationships with potential producers (or refer to RM’s) who have prospective business that meets our underwriting guidelines
- Monitor work loads and advise team leaders if assistance is required due to exceptional circumstances, i.e. seasonal business loads or personal vacation
- Assist members of the appraisal section with any queries
- Assist members of the claims department with any queries
- Work with staff members in other departments to identify cross marketing opportunities as and when required

- Negotiation and marketing skills
- Policy documentation, including terms and conditions,
- Underwriting policy practice
- Understanding the appraisal services
- Front-End, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- Product range in the Personal Lines Department
- Understanding the underwriting appetite of other Departments
- Insurance industry and Chubb’s position in the market
