KEY OBJECTIVE
We are looking for a visionary QA Lead to own and drive quality engineering across our platform. You will define the strategy, standards, and future ways of working for quality - spanning APIs, integrations, and platform-level reliability - while championing an AI-augmented testing mindset that keeps pace with how modern engineering teams deliver.
This is a senior leadership role at the intersection of quality strategy, platform engineering, and AI-driven innovation - for someone who can set direction, develop people, and get hands-on when it matters.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Leadership
Define and own the platform’s QA strategy and roadmap, aligned to platform engineering goals and business outcomes.
Champion a platform-thinking approach to quality - treating test coverage, reliability, and release confidence as first-class product concerns.
Partner with Platform Engineering, Product, and Architecture to embed quality at every stage of the delivery lifecycle.
Build and nurture a high-performing QA chapter, setting standards for craft, automation maturity, and continuous improvement.
AI & Future Ways of Working
Lead the adoption of AI-assisted testing practices - AI-generated test cases, self-healing automation scripts, intelligent defect prediction, and anomaly detection.
Evaluate and pilot emerging QA tools and platforms relevant to the platform’s tech stack and scale.
Establish guardrails and best practices for responsible AI usage within the platform testing lifecycle.
Drive a shift toward smarter, faster feedback loops - reducing manual overhead without sacrificing coverage or confidence.
Platform Test Architecture
Own test architecture decisions - framework selection, tooling standards, and CI/CD integration for the platform.
Define coverage strategies across API testing, integration testing, contract testing, and non-functional testing (performance, resilience, security).
Govern test environment strategy, data management, and pipeline quality gates across the platform.
Ensure test suites are maintainable, fast, and provide genuine signal - not just coverage metrics.
Engineering Excellence
Set and enforce QA standards: code quality within test codebases, reporting cadence, defect lifecycle, and triage discipline.
Drive shift-left quality practices - embedding quality thinking into planning, design, and development, not just post-build.
Champion observability-driven quality - using platform telemetry and production signals to inform testing strategy.
Lead platform-wide retrospectives on quality outcomes, escaped defects, and testing effectiveness.
Must-Have
7+ years in software quality engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a QA lead, principal, or chapter lead capacity.
Proven track record of defining or transforming a QA function for a platform or core engineering product.
Strong automation engineering background - API, integration, and system-level testing at scale.
Hands-on experience integrating QA into CI/CD pipelines and owning test architecture decisions.
Practical experience applying or evaluating AI tools within a QA or testing context.
Strong communicator - able to influence senior stakeholders and coach engineers at the same time.
Outstanding communication, presentation abilities and teamwork skills; fluent in English.
Ability to work autonomously, well organised, pragmatic and open minded; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong Advantage
Experience with AI-assisted testing platforms (e.g., Mabl, Testim, Applitools, or LLM-based test generation).
Background in platform-level testing concerns: performance, resilience, contract testing, chaos engineering.
Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and security testing integration into pipelines.
Experience in regulated industries - financial services, insurance, or healthcare.
Exposure to observability tooling (e.g., Dynatrace, Azure App Insights) used to inform quality decisions.
Experience with matrix organisation and business projects with multi-disciplinary teams.
Leadership & Soft Skills
Strategic thinker who can set direction at the platform level and unblock teams at the delivery level.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity - drives clarity and structure without waiting for perfect conditions.
Strong coaching instinct - develops QA engineers from reactive testers to proactive quality advocates.
Bias for outcomes over activity; defines clear success metrics and holds the chapter accountable.
QUALIFICATIONS
A recognised degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
Overall 7+ years of experience in software quality engineering with progressive technical leadership responsibilities.
Relevant QA or testing certifications (e.g., ISTQB Advanced, Azure certification) are a strong advantage.
