Cisco Systems is an American networking company founded in 1984 by Stanford computer scientists Leonard Bosack and Sandy Lerner, and headquartered in San Jose, California. It is the largest supplier of enterprise networking equipment in the world, building the routers, switches, wireless access points and optical systems that carry traffic across corporate networks, service providers and data centres, together with the software and silicon that run them. The company has diversified heavily into security, observability through Splunk, collaboration with Webex, and AI infrastructure networking, and now earns a growing share of revenue from software subscriptions rather than hardware sales.

Meet the Team

Join Cisco's dynamic Enterprise Switching Product Operations team in Guadalajara as a Senior Electrical Product Engineer. You will play a meaningful role in bringing to market and sustaining our high-performance Catalyst 9K switching portfolio, a cornerstone of Cisco's enterprise networking solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the Cost, Quality, and Delivery of cutting-edge products, working at the intersection of hardware development, supply chain, and manufacturing. You will be a key technical liaison, ensuring our products meet the highest standards from concept to end-of-life, directly contributing to the success of one of Cisco's largest and most strategic business units.

Your Impact

As a Senior Electrical Product Engineer (EPE), you will be the technical owner for a specific group of products within the Catalyst 9K portfolio, providing comprehensive electrical engineering support throughout their entire lifecycle. As a regional team member co-located with the CM organization, you will partner with the San Jose-based Electrical Product Engineering and Product Operations team.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Responsibilities:

  • DfX Leadership: Drive Design for X (DfX) actions across manufacturability, assembly, test, cost, quality, supply chain, and customer use to ensure efficient product readiness for mass production.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Electrical Design Engineering, Hardware Development, Software Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain Operations, and global Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners to guide products from early conceptual design through to launch.

  • Cost, Quality, and Delivery Optimization: Influence and implement strategies to achieve target cost, outstanding quality, and timely delivery throughout the supply chain and into the customer environment.

  • Technical Validation: Support component and product qualification processes, including GQT (Global Qualification Tool) and MCN (Manufacturing Change Notification) processes.

Sustaining Product Engineering Responsibilities:

  • Value Engineering: Lead and implement cost reduction initiatives and design-related yield improvements for existing products.

  • Technical Issue Resolution: Provide expert-level debug, analysis, and root cause investigation for issues identified during the product lifecycle.

  • CM & Operations Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for our contract manufacturing partners and regional Global Manufacturing Operations teams, addressing daily operational and technical challenges.

  • Lifecycle Management: Support end-of-life planning and execution for assigned products.

As a Senior Electrical Product Engineer (EPE), you are a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication and influence skills, capable of growing in dynamic, collaborative environments while navigating sophisticated technical challenges and ambiguity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of shown electrical engineering experience, with a strong focus on high-complexity, high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing processes, including Surface Mount Technology (SMT).
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of Design for X (DfX) principles (e.g. Valor DFM analysis, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Testability).
  • Proven track record to work reliably within diverse, multi-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems specific to networking equipment.
  • Familiarity with key electronic components (commodities) used in networking hardware design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with Value Engineering or similar cost optimization programs.
  • Understanding of component qualification processes like GQT/MCN.
