Our Quality Interfaces team is part of the Control Loop organization and focuses on the software development lifecycle across Splunk. The team builds the standards, quality signals, data contracts, and integration surfaces that help Splunk engineering teams understand their quality posture and act on it. Our customers are internal engineering teams, repository owners, engineering managers, platform teams, and release stakeholders who rely on clear and consistent quality data to improve engineering outcomes.

We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer to contribute to the development, testing, documentation, and operation of services and internal engineering interfaces that support this mission. This is a great opportunity for someone with solid software engineering fundamentals, practical coding experience, curiosity about developer productivity and quality systems, and a strong willingness to learn how large-scale engineering organizations measure and improve software quality.

Participate in the software development cycle with guidance from more experienced engineers: understand requirements, contribute to technical design, implement features, write tests, fix defects, and support deployment readiness.

Work on straightforward business and customer problems through small-to-medium features or clearly scoped parts of larger initiatives.

Develop and maintain service components, APIs, data collection jobs, validation checks, automation, and internal tools that help collect, normalize, and expose engineering quality signals.

Contribute to internal applications and lightweight engineering interfaces that help teams inspect quality data, understand missing signals, and identify practical next steps.

Apply user-centered thinking with a focus on simplification, usability, reliability, secure coding practices, and privacy-aware handling of engineering data.

Write clean, maintainable code and unit tests with guidance, and execute relevant tests for your changes.

Participate in design and code reviews, address review feedback, and learn how to provide constructive review comments on changes from others.

Create and update technical documentation used by the team, and contribute to user-facing or operational documentation where relevant.

Debug and troubleshoot issues in development, test, pre-production, and production environments with support from the team.

Monitor and triage incident reports with guidance, participate in postmortems, and over time support on-call activities as appropriate for the role.

Estimate assignments, communicate status clearly, raise blockers early, and collaborate with team members to identify paths forward.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 2 years of related experience, Master's degree with 0 years of related experience, or equivalent practical experience.

Basic knowledge of software engineering theories, principles, and concepts, with exposure to current technologies through coursework, internship, professional work, open-source work, or personal projects.

Practical coding experience in at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python or Go.

Good fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, debugging, and writing readable, maintainable code.

Basic understanding of backend or service development concepts such as APIs, HTTP, databases, data formats, and automated testing.

Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle and common agile engineering practices, including requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, acceptance testing, and iterative delivery.

Ability to write functional code and unit tests with guidance.

Ability to read logs, investigate defects, use development tools, and troubleshoot straightforward issues with support from others.

Good communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate status, blockers, and delays.

Willingness to learn secure coding practices, reliability practices, and production support expectations.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Python or Go.

Familiarity with backend frameworks, internal tools, data pipelines, or developer-facing systems.

Basic knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases.

Exposure to CI/CD systems, source control systems, test automation frameworks, containers, or cloud-based development environments.

Interest in engineering quality topics such as test coverage, contract testing, linting, pipeline reliability, release readiness, or software delivery metrics.

Exposure to secure coding principles, privacy-aware development, reliability testing, incident triage, or production support practices.
