Our Detection and Remediation team is part of the Developer Platform organization and focuses on improving the software development lifecycle across Splunk. We build tools, services, and frameworks that detect product and test issues early, isolate failures, and protect CI/CD pipelines and developers’ time from unnecessary noise.

Our customers are internal engineering teams, repository owners, engineering managers, and platform partners operating in complex development environments. We help them identify what matters, resolve issues efficiently, and deliver reliable software.

We are seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to help us build and operate Python-based services, developer tooling, and cloud-native solutions that support Splunk’s broad engineering community. This role requires solid software engineering fundamentals, hands-on backend development experience, familiarity with cloud technologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving practical engineering problems, working with internal platform users, and translating quality and productivity goals into reliable technical solutions that teams can adopt.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the complete software development lifecycle: understand requirements, design, develop, test, automate, deploy, operate, and maintain software.
• Design and build reliable backend services, APIs, automation tools, and data-processing pipelines.
• Develop and operate solutions using cloud services and cloud-native technologies.
• Partner with engineering teams, repository owners, and platform teams to introduce and improve shared tooling and standards.
• Contribute to technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
• Improve the maintainability, observability, diagnosability, performance, and reliability of the systems owned by the team.
• Investigate and resolve issues affecting development workflows, pre-production environments, and production services.
• Contribute to frameworks and standards for detecting, isolating, and remediating software and test failures.
• Write and maintain automated tests, technical documentation, operational guidance, and runbooks.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to diagnose and resolve service and integration issues when needed.

Requirements

• Professional software development experience, with solid knowledge of software engineering principles and practices.
• Proficiency in Python and experience building maintainable, well-tested applications or services.
• Experience developing backend services, REST APIs, automation tools, data pipelines, or internal platforms.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as containers, serverless computing, managed services, infrastructure as code, or Kubernetes.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, source control systems, automated testing, or related engineering infrastructure.
• Understanding of distributed-system concepts and API or service design.
• Experience writing automated tests and supporting software in production or production-like environments.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including experience using logs, metrics, traces, and other diagnostic tools.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work with engineers and stakeholders across different teams.
• Ability to work independently on well-defined projects while seeking guidance and feedback when appropriate.
• Experience with developer productivity, developer platforms, software development lifecycle tooling, or engineering quality initiatives is a plus.
