Bryn catches your signals and scores them, then runs the Plays to turn them into pipeline in minutes. Built on Civic's MCP and Auth.

Civic is a team of system thinkers in the built environment, creating positive impact for people, places and the planet.

We want our work to have a positive impact on the environment - helping people to live healthier, happier lives while respecting natural limits. We build without destroying, explore without exploiting, and seek to reuse rather than just consume. Above all, we listen, learn, and aim to create a lasting legacy.

Thriving together, today we have a team of over 200 members working across the UK, all united by our creative belief, bringing art and science together to solve problems. Our award-winning practice has studios in Manchester, London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin.

Requirements

We are looking for a talented and collaborative Senior Associate Engineer who shares our purpose and desire to make a positive difference to the world around them. Sustainable design is at the heart of our Practice and collectively we can create inspirational designs that will protect our climate and enhance the built environment.

You will lead the delivery of a variety of built environment projects across the UK, across a range of sectors including residential, education and commercial development and regeneration.

You will have demonstrated skill at managing a team of engineers and technicians in the efficient and successful delivery of multiple projects concurrently. You will have also proven effective at supporting the Associate Directors and Director teams in their duties including workload and people management, business development and bidding.

Business development will be a significant part of your role. You will have developed your own network of industry contacts, maintain them and regularly bring in new business opportunities. You will have developed an overview of other disciplines within Civic and be comfortable representing the practice at meetings with external parties discussing and selling these services.

We are looking for a progressive and talented engineer who is keen to influence the people around them with the same understanding and empathy that they bring to their engineering. We hope you will share our strong interest in architecture and the wider public realm/built environment and play a key role in our ongoing practice and growth strategy.

Key elements of the job:

Technical

  • Leading structural engineering design
  • Identifying problems and opportunities, directing others to assess and resolve problems using qualitative and quantitative measures and supervising others to do so.
  • Coordinating and reviewing the production of high-quality drawings, presentations and written reports on a range of projects.
  • Self-checking and checking others’ work.
  • Overseeing preparation and presentation of technical data
  • Overseeing the effective use of analysis and modelling software for design.
  • Conducting internal reviews of projects across the practice
  • Compliance with the duties of Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015
  • Compliance with the practice QMS, including self-checking

Managerial

  • Leading multiple projects concurrently: understanding, and where necessary negotiating, overall programmes, project deliverables, resources and associated fees both at the start and managing changes throughout project lifetimes.
  • Liaising regularly with the senior members of the project team and clients via meetings, phone calls and general correspondence; managing expectations and feeding any significant matters arising back to directors.
  • Project resource allocation and forward planning to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Managing, mentoring and developing members of the team. This will focus on your direct team but as a studio leader you will be keen to develop the wider team where possible through a variety of activities including presentations for the Civic Academy.
  • Team & project financial and commercial awareness
  • Contribution to overall business analysis, planning and strategy

    Business Development

  • Assisting the AD with leading your team’s BD, including attending and representing at internal BD reporting meetings.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong industry network
  • Building a strong rapport with existing clients, through project delivery and high standards of communication.
  • Identification of opportunities, discussing and agreeing strategies for pursuing them with directors.
  • You are expected to regularly win work for the team through the development of existing/new clients and collaborators.
  • Business development activities including general networking, 121s with contacts and attendance at industry events both internal and external. Note these often occur out of normal business hours.
  • Writing bids and fee proposals and following these up to convert opportunities
