Role Overview:

ClarityPay is looking for a Product Counsel. This is a foundational hire for the legal and compliance team of a rapidly growing fintech, and it comes with built-in opportunity for professional growth and development.

This will be a broad-based role, focused primarily on regulatory and operational matters, along with commercial contracting support. This is an ideal opportunity for a rock-solid financial services regulatory attorney with a desire to become an in-house generalist. It could also be a great match for a fintech generalist that wants to develop subject matter expertise in the lending space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an in-house subject matter expert on the consumer and small business lending regulations, tracking relevant changes and directives that may impact the company or our partners.

  • Take a lead role in establishing regulatory requirements for new product development and implementation.

  • Support the ClarityPay team with accurate and pragmatic regulatory advice and in-depth legal risk assessments relevant to the company’s development and launch of new financial products.

  • Support compliance and customer service teams on the resolution of inquiries and complaints from customers and regulators.

  • Support compliance, business development, customer service, and other internal stakeholders in fielding legal and regulatory questions.

  • Provide legal support for ClarityPay’s Compliance and Operational Risk Program.

  • Support commercial contracting efforts with merchants and vendors.

  • Collaborate on the development and improvement of internal policies, procedures, and processes.

  • Project-manage various key legal and compliance projects.

  • Support or own other legal projects as determined by the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.

Qualifications:

· JD from a top tier law school and a license to practice in good standing in primary state of residence.

· 7+ years total legal experience.

· At least 2 years of law firm experience.

· Deep experience advising clients on consumer financial services matters.

· Contract drafting and negotiation experience.

· Strong legal research skills.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to learn and leverage new technology quickly and effectively, including hands-on experience leveraging modern AI tools for legal work.

Bonus Points:

· Prior experience in fintech lending.

· Broad legal experience covering regulatory, transactional, and dispute resolution matters.

· Prior experience performing in-depth legal risk assessments on consumer financial services regulations.

· Experience supporting the compliance function of a consumer lender or lending platform.

· Experience working with regulators to quickly and effectively resolve inquiries, complaints, or information requests.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation and equity package.

  • Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision).

  • Collaborative office culture with a strong product mindset.

  • Opportunities to grow, lead, and shape the future of consumer finance.

  • 401k program with employer match.

Role Details:

  • Preference for candidates near our headquarters in New York, NY or the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.

  • Limited travel is expected, primarily for corporate gatherings and industry conferences.

  • This role will report to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.

Salary Range: $180,000 to $220,000 per year.

Salary range is an approximation and will depend on market data applied to factors like the candidate’s skills and experience, geographic location, and compensation/equity mix.
