We are looking for a highly technical, detail-oriented Billing Operations Manager with deep, hands-on experience in Orb, Stripe, metering infrastructure, and usage-based / consumption-based billing models.
This individual will own the end-to-end billing lifecycle, from usageevent ingestion and metering validation through invoice generation, reconciliation, and revenue reporting.
The ideal candidate has worked in a high-growth SaaS, API-first, AI infrastructure, or cloud consumption business and understands the operational complexity of billing customers based on actual product usage.
This is a hands-on execution role, not simply a traditional accountsreceivable or invoicing position. We need someone who understands how billing systems work technically and can partner closely with Engineering, Product, Finance, and Revenue Operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Orb & Stripe Billing Operations
- Own day-to-day administration and optimization of Orb and Stripe.
- Configure and maintaincustomer billing accounts, subscriptions, pricing plans, billing schedules, and invoicing workflows.
- Manage the integration between Orb's usage-based billing platform and Stripe's payment and invoicing capabilities.
- Troubleshoot billing discrepancies, failed invoices, payment issues, and system integration errors.
- Ensure billing accuracy across customer contracts, product usage, and payment systems.
2. Usage Metering & Consumption-Based Billing
- Own operational processes for usage-based, metered, and consumption-based billing.
- Validate usageevent ingestion, aggregation, and rating accuracy.
- Understand and manage complex pricing structures, including:
- Pay-as-you-go consumption pricing
- Tiered and volume-based pricing
- Prepaid credits and consumption drawdowns
- Committed spend and minimum usage commitments
- Overage billing
- Hybrid subscription and consumption models
- Monitor usage-to-invoice reconciliation and investigate missing, delayed, duplicated, or inaccurate usage events.
- Collaborate with Engineering to maintainreliable metering and billing pipelines.
3. Billing Accuracy & Revenue Reconciliation
- Own monthly billing close and invoice quality assurance.
- Reconcile consumption data between product systems, Orb, Stripe, and financial systems.
- Identifyand resolve billing leakage, underbilling, overbilling, and revenue discrepancies.
- Partner with Finance on revenue recognition inputs, deferred revenue, credit balances, and customer commitments.
- Build controls and processes to ensure completeness and accuracy of billable usage.
4. Billing Systems & Automation
- Improve and automate billing workflows to reduce manual intervention.
- Work closely with Engineering and Product on pricing launches, meter definitions, billing APIs, and system integrations.
- Build operational dashboards and reporting for consumption, billed revenue, credits, and unbilled usage.
- Establish monitoring, exception management, and audit processes for the billing infrastructure.
- Support pricing and packaging changes from configuration through production validation.
5. Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Sales and Deal Desk to operationalize complex customer pricing agreements.
- Work with Customer Success to resolve billing questions and disputes.
- Collaborate with Finance and Accounting to ensure billing data supports accurate financial reporting.
- Translate complex commercial agreements into executable billing configurations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experiencein Billing Operations, Revenue Operations, Billing Systems, or Technical Finance Operations.
- Direct, hands-on production experience with Orb is stronglyrequired.
- Strong hands-on experience with Stripe Billing, including subscriptions, invoices, payment workflows, and integrations.
- Demonstrated experience operating usage-based, metered, or consumption-based billing systems.
- Strong understanding of usageevent pipelines, metering logic, rating, pricing configuration, and invoice generation.
- Experience reconciling raw usage data to invoices and resolving discrepancies.
- Strong SQL skills for querying usage data and troubleshooting billing issues.
- Experience collaborating directly with software engineers on APIs, webhooks, and billing integrations.
- Proven ability to manage complex billing workflows in a high-volume SaaS environment.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and end-to-end ownership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in AI, LLM platforms, developer tools, API infrastructure, cloud computing, or data infrastructure companies.
- Experience supporting token-based, API-call-based, compute-based, or storage-based billing.
- Familiarity with Stripe APIs, Orb APIs, event-driven architectures, and data pipelines.
- Experience with NetSuite, Snowflake, dbt, or other financial and data platforms.
- Experience implementing or migrating usage-based billing platforms.
- Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition considerations related to consumption billing.
