Energy Engineer (4+ years)

Coffman Engineers is seeking an Energy Engineer to join our Anchorage office. We are looking for a self-motivated, technically strong mechanical or electrical engineer with at least four years of engineering experience who enjoys solving complex problems and collaborating across disciplines. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise to multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, operators, clients, and other project stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be passionate about their discipline, interested in expanding their knowledge across mechanical and electrical systems, and motivated to grow into a role leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Technical work may include detailed engineering for a variety of project types across sectors which may include:
- Power generation and electrical utility systems.
- Energy and electrical system modeling.
- Generator control systems.
- Instrumentation, protection and controls.
- Distribution & Substation design.
- HVAC systems and controls.
- Liquid and gaseous fuel systems, including diesel, natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, and biofuels.
- Piping, and facility mechanical systems.
- Heat recovery and combined heat and power systems.
- Renewable energy systems, including wind and solar.
- Battery energy storage facilities.
- Microgrids and distributed energy systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- At least four years of engineering experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related energy discipline.
- Strong technical background with experience performing engineering calculations, analyses, and design.
- Experience preparing or reviewing drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Familiarity with relevant mechanical, electrical, energy-modeling, hydraulic-analysis, or piping-analysis software.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering or project team.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports, engineering documents, proposals, and project execution plans.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, contractors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in developing project management and team leadership capabilities.
- Ability to travel periodically.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer licensure in Alaska, or the ability and interest to pursue licensure.
- Experience in engineering design for the energy, electric utility, power generation sectors.
- Experience performing power system studies and modeling using ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, or similar electrical system analysis software.
- Experience with project scoping, feasibility studies, and design development.
- Experience supporting project scope, schedule, budget, and resource management.
- Experience developing client relationships, proposals, and new business opportunities.
- Demonstrated interest in progressing into the management of multidisciplinary projects and teams.
