ABOUT THE POSITION
Although we're an apparel and footwear-focused company, technology is central to everything we do. Columbia Sportswear’s Digital Technology (CDT) group enables an IT infrastructure and applications across four global brands, a global supply chain, and 500+ geographically dispersed stores. These teams support in-store, mobile, and data platforms to enhance customer interface and service in an ever-evolving industry.
The Sr. Data Platform Engineer is a member of the Data & Analytics (D&A) Platform and Architecture team responsible for the design, development, testing, maintenance, and support of CSC's Enterprise Data Platform. Working on a dedicated scrum team, the Sr. Data Platform Engineer will provide technical and architectural design, as well as development and analytical support for CSC's D&A platform.
The Sr. Data Platform Engineer must have demonstrable big data experience with cloud computing in order to help the D&A team deliver high-quality, first-class reporting to customers. A skillset that includes data architecture and system design is a must.
The Sr. Data Platform Engineer will have strong communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with technical teams across information technology (IT) groups.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As a Senior Data Platform Engineer on our Data & Analytics (D&A) Platform and Architecture team, you'll contribute to the development, optimization, and ongoing evolution of CSC's enterprise data platform - a governed lakehouse built on Azure, Databricks, and Delta Lake, running at global scale.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining data infrastructure pipelines, frameworks, and platform tooling within the established architecture.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms using Databricks, Data Lake, Data Factory, and Data Warehouse.
- Collaborating with senior and principal engineers on integration patterns across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers.
- In-depth knowledge of Azure Key Vault and security best practices.
- Experience with Unity Catalog and managing multiple workspaces.
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and Terraform.
- Identifying and resolving performance issues in pipelines and queries.
- Participating in scrum ceremonies and delivering reliably within an agile team.
- Supporting and mentoring more junior engineers as you grow into the role.
- Communicating effectively with cross-functional stakeholders across time zones.
- Availability to participate in an on-call rotation for production support coverage

YOU HAVE
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles, with at least 3 years working in a cloud environment (Azure preferred).
- Solid hands-on experience with Apache Spark and PySpark.
- Strong SQL skills and comfort with query optimization.
- Working experience with Databricks and Delta Lake.
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory or comparable pipeline/orchestration tooling.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a global team.
- Comfort operating with a degree of autonomy in a distributed, cross-time zone environment.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Exposure to Unity Catalog, medallion architecture, or enterprise data governance concepts.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform or equivalent).
- Experience with enterprise scheduling platforms (e.g., Tidal).
- Exposure to BI platforms such as Power BI at the data layer.
