Job Description
Location:
New York, NYCondé Nast is seeking a Senior Manager to help evaluate and improve performance across our consumer subscription business. This role will focus on understanding the metrics that drive subscriber acquisition, retention, and economics; identifying the factors behind performance; and translating those findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
We are looking for someone with strong business judgment and a proven ability to distinguish the metrics that matter from those that are simply available. The ideal candidate understands how a subscription or other customer acquisition business works, recognizes the relationships among volume, conversion, marketing investment, customer value, and profitability, and can explain what changes in those metrics mean for the business.
This is a business-oriented analytics role, not primarily a data engineering or advanced modeling position. The Senior Manager will work closely with analytics and data partners to access and validate the necessary information, while taking ownership of the questions we should be asking, the interpretation of the results, and the implications for business decisions. This position reports to the Vice President of Consumer Analytics.
Primary Responsibilities
Business Performance & KPI Analysis
- Identify and prioritize the key metrics that explain subscription growth and customer acquisition performance across brands and channels.
- Analyze subscriber orders, conversion, channel mix, acquisition costs, retention, LTV, ARPU, and related economics to understand what is driving results.
- Look beyond headline results to distinguish underlying performance changes from shifts in mix, timing, pricing, promotions, or measurement.
- Spot trends, emerging issues, and opportunities early; develop hypotheses and recommend where deeper investigation is warranted.
- Assess trade-offs among subscriber growth, acquisition efficiency, customer quality, and longer-term value.
Planning, Forecasting & Measurement
- Support acquisition and retention forecasts, annual budgeting, and periodic reforecasting by evaluating the assumptions and performance drivers behind plans.
- Partner with Growth, Paid Marketing, CRM, Site, Brand, Finance, and Operations teams to assess performance against targets and understand the reasons for variances.
- Evaluate campaign, channel, pricing, promotional, and conversion initiatives in terms of incremental customer orders and business impact.
- Help establish practical KPI definitions and measurement approaches that enable consistent, decision-useful reporting.
Insights, Communication & Collaboration
- Develop clear weekly and monthly performance narratives that focus on what changed, why it changed, and what action may be needed.
- Translate complex analysis into concise findings and recommendations for marketing and business leaders.
- Frame analytical questions, define data requirements, and work with data and technical analytics partners to obtain reliable answers.
- Challenge assumptions constructively and identify when a metric, analysis, or conclusion may be misleading.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in growth analytics, marketing analytics, subscription analytics, business performance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated understanding of the economics and operating metrics of a customer acquisition business.
- Subscription experience is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to identify the most important business KPIs, interpret the factors driving their movement, and recommend actions based on the findings.
- Strong working knowledge of conversion rates, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, retention/churn, revenue per subscriber, and channel performance.
- Experience working with marketing, growth, finance, or commercial teams to translate performance analysis into decisions.
- Strong analytical reasoning and comfort working with data in spreadsheets and business intelligence tools; ability to assess data quality and partner effectively with technical teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present a focused performance story to senior stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on SQL, statistical modeling, Python, or R experience is helpful but not required. The priority is the ability to understand what should be measured, interpret the results correctly, and use them to improve business performance.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $130,000-$145,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
