As a Staff Software Engineer at Conga, you'll help shape the architecture and technical direction of our cloud-native platform. You'll design and build highly scalable, resilient backend services that power mission-critical revenue operations for enterprise customers worldwide. Working closely with engineering leaders, architects, and product teams, you'll drive technical excellence, mentor engineers, and influence key architectural decisions across our distributed systems ecosystem.

The systems you design and build must handle high volumes of data, deliver exceptional reliability, and scale as our customers grow. As a Staff Engineer, your impact extends beyond individual services. You'll help define engineering standards, shape platform architecture, and influence how our teams build secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions that power the future of Conga's products.
Here’s what we’re looking for…
- 5+ years of experience developing large-scale, complex applications with Java
- Strong expertise in backend development, including multi-threading, messaging, streaming, performance optimization, and horizontal scalability
- Solid experience building REST APIs and backend services
- Hands-on experience with Cassandra and other NoSQL databases
- Strong knowledge of Redis, including caching and stream-based workflows
- Experience with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven design
- Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean architecture
- Awareness of algorithmic complexity and Java data structures
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
- Experience with BDD/TDD practices
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
- Working knowledge of Git, Jira, and Confluence
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- A proactive mindset and willingness to learn and work across backend technologies
Nice to Have (Advantage):
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) to improve productivity, code quality, or development workflows
- Experience with Java 21 and/or Dropwizard
- Familiarity with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
- Experience with Azure Service Bus, Redis Streams, or similar messaging technologies
- Experience with AKS, Helm, or other Azure deployment tooling
- University degree in Computer Science or a related field

- Design and develop backend services in Java for a cloud-native, microservices-based platform with a strong focus on scalability, performance, resiliency, and maintainability
- Build reusable backend services and distributed system capabilities that support real-time pricing and related business operations
- Work with Cassandra, Redis, Azure, and event-driven patterns to deliver reliable, high-throughput backend solutions
- Collaborate with a talented international team of engineers, product managers, and architects to define system functionality and plan future sprints
- Partner with tech leads and architects to align implementations with industry best practices and company standards across the backend layer
- Contribute to backend architecture decisions, service design, and data handling patterns
- Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, guiding them in best practices, design decisions, and professional growth
- Conduct technical research to solve complex problems and drive continuous improvement across backend technologies
- Contribute to and maintain technical documentation
- Develop unit, integration, and service-level tests, and collaborate with QA to ensure end-to-end quality
- Work closely with the DevOps/Cloud Services team to support deployments and troubleshoot production issues
- Help improve engineering processes, delivery practices, and operational reliability across the platform
