Role Overview

As the Mobile Engineering Lead, you’ll lead the architecture, engineering practices, and delivery of our mobile applications, built for learners, educators, and government users across India. We need someone with strong hands-on Kotlin and Jetpack Compose experience - these are mandatory requirements. Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) is preferred if you’ve worked on sharing logic across platforms. You’ll also shape how we build for Bharat-scale: offline-first design, accessibility, multilingual support, and performance on low-end devices and patchy networks. This role is a part of 0-to-1 vertical build, The person joining should be comfortable with ambiguity, high ownership, rapid iteration, hands-on execution, team building and periods of high intensity work during the early set up phase.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own the mobile architecture roadmap: technology choices, platform strategy, and long-term scalability decisions.
• Drive offline-first engineering: local storage design, sync strategies, conflict resolution, and graceful degradation.
• Build accessible mobile experiences: WCAG compliance, screen reader support, and assistive technology compatibility.
• Lead performance optimisation initiatives: cold start reduction, memory management, battery efficiency, and network efficiency.
• Establish mobile engineering standards: code quality, testing strategy, release management, and security baselines.
• Guide AI-powered mobile experiences: on-device inference, edge ML integration, and AI feature delivery on constrained hardware.
• Own Play Store deployment & release management, staged rollouts, and production monitoring.
• Integrate mobile applications with REST APIs, cloud platforms, and microservices with resilient error handling and retry strategies.
• Lead mobile engineering teams: technical hiring, code review standards, sprint planning, and architecture decision ownership

Must-Have Skills

• Strong Android development experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose (both must-have)
• Strong understanding of mobile architecture, performance optimization, and application security
• Experience integrating mobile applications with REST APIs, cloud platforms, and microservices
• Knowledge of playstore store deployment, monitoring, and production support
• Experience leading mobile engineering teams of 2-4 people and driving technical decisions
