Software Engineer

About the Opportunity

As a Software Engineer at Coursedog, you'll help build the platform that hundreds of colleges and universities rely on to manage their academic operations. You'll work across the stack, from backend services and APIs to the Vue frontend customers use every day, and collaborate closely with product, design, and fellow engineers to deliver features and resolve issues. You'll own problems from scoping through release, whether you're building something new or strengthening the systems already in place.

This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys learning unfamiliar systems, values clean and maintainable code, and wants their work to have a direct impact on the institutions we serve. If you're motivated by building software that helps remove barriers to student success, this is a chance to do meaningful work at real scale.

This role offers a competitive base salary ranging from $70,000-$90,000, depending on experience. The position includes a performance-based variable compensation plan, bringing the total on-target earnings (OTE) to $75,000-$100,000 when goals are met.

What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs.
• Develop and maintain frontend applications using TypeScript and Vue (or similar frameworks).
• Design, implement, and maintain well-structured, testable code.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
• Debug and improve existing systems, including legacy components.
• Improve existing systems, including legacy components, through debugging and refactoring
• Use AI tools to work more efficiently across coding, debugging, and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features and resolve issues.
• Establish and document engineering best practices that raise the bar for the whole team

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

Required

• Experience writing TypeScript and modern JavaScript in production applications
• Experience building frontend applications with Vue.js or a similar framework
• Experience developing backend services with Node.js
• Knowledge of REST APIs and software design principles
• Experience working with databases such as MongoDB, Redis, and relational databases
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Ability to learn new systems quickly in ambiguous problem spaces
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners
• Experience using AI tools to speed up development while maintaining code quality

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS, queues, or serverless systems (e.g., Lambda).
• Exposure to AI-powered or AI-adjacent systems.
• Backend experience beyond Node.js (e.g., Python, Java, .NET).
