Reports to: Associate Director, FP&A

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah (Hybrid - 3x/week in-office)

About the Role:

Backcountry is looking for a finance leader to own the planning, forecasting, and analytical engine that powers business decisions across the company. As Manager, FP&A, you will lead the annual budgeting and forecasting cycles, build financial models that inform strategic investments, and champion an AI-first approach to how the finance team operates.

In your first 6-12 months, success means delivering reliable monthly reporting packages and executive dashboards, tightening variance analysis, and identifying at least one high-impact area where AI or automation materially improves speed or quality of FP&A output.

This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, partnering with department heads to develop accurate and achievable financial plans aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Own monthly reporting packages, variance analysis, and executive dashboards; translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Analyze financial and operational performance to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement across the business.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support scenario analysis, investment decisions, and strategic planning.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of proposed business initiatives and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to senior leadership, communicating complex financial information clearly across departments.
  • Collaborate with accounting, operations, marketing, and other teams to gather data and incorporate key business drivers into planning processes.
  • Operationalize recurring analyses into always-on dashboards and automated alerts so stakeholders receive timely insights and next-best-actions.
  • Champion an AI-first approach to FP&A by identifying process steps where AI can improve speed and quality, and implementing solutions ranging from CustomGPTs to automated workflows.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis within the retail or ecommerce industry.
  • Previous people management experience.
  • Deep understanding of the ecommerce supply chain and associated business drivers.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI and workflow-automation tools to streamline finance processes and eliminate manual work.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in financial modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial planning software.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex financial information for varied audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or MBA.

Why Join:

The people who do best here are builders. They take ownership, move fast, and want to see the direct impact of their work.

  • Team Impact: Build and lead a team that directly shapes how Backcountry plans, forecasts, and allocates resources - your work translates into better decisions across every department.
  • Growth & Leadership Development: Sharpen your management craft while pioneering AI-first finance practices in a business that values experimentation and measurable improvement.
  • Ownership: Own team performance and delivery end-to-end - from the models you build to the dashboards leadership relies on daily.
  • Competitive Benefits: Paid time off policies, 401(k) match, medical/dental/vision and a variety of supplemental policies, and employee discounts across our portfolio of brands.

Interview Process:

    • Recruiter Screen - A 45-minute conversation with our recruiting team to align on the role, your background, and what you are looking for.
    • Hiring Manager Interview - A deeper conversation focused on your FP&A experience, leadership approach, and how you have applied AI and automation in finance.
    • Panel Interview - Meet cross-functional partners to discuss collaboration, communication style, and how you translate financial analysis into business action.
    • In-Person Interview - We'd like to meet you at our Salt Lake City office. Details and logistics will be arranged with your recruiter.
    • Reference Checks - Conducted in parallel with the final stages where possible.
    • Offer - We move quickly for the right candidate.

Interview process is subject to change. Any updates will be communicated promptly and clearly.
