We are currently seeking an experienced Auto Body Painter / Prepper to join our Collision Repair team. This role will be responsible for preparing vehicle surfaces and applying high-quality refinish coatings to restore vehicles to their pre-accident condition, while working closely with estimators, management, and fellow technicians to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Surface Preparation: Sand, mask, prime, and prep body panels and replacement parts to ensure optimal paint adhesion and a flawless finish.

Paint Colour Matching & Mixing: Utilize computerized paint-matching systems to accurately mix, tint, and blend solvent or waterborne paints to match OEM factory specifications.

Refinishing & Application: Professionally apply primers, basecoats, and clearcoats in a spray booth environment, adhering strictly to proper spraying techniques and curing times.

Detailing & Quality Control: Perform post-paint inspection, colour sanding, buffing, and polishing to remove imperfections and meet high quality-assurance standards.

Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and maintain spray guns, ventilation systems, and paint booth filters to ensure continuous operational efficiency and safe working conditions.

Team Collaboration & Efficiency: Work alongside body technicians, estimators, and management to track vehicle repair stages, meet production schedules, and optimize shop workflow.

Safety & Environmental Compliance: Maintain a clean workspace while following strict health, safety, and hazardous material disposal protocols (including proper PPE and respirator usage).

Compensation

Expected Compensation: $25.00-$32.00 per hour.

Compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications and falls within the expected range for this role.

Requirements

Experience: 3-5 years of professional auto body prepping and painting experience in a collision repair environment.

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Transportation: Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in surface prep (sanding, feather-edging, block sanding, masking, and priming).
  • Hands-on experience mixing, colour-matching, blending, and spraying basecoats and clearcoats.
  • Expertise in post-paint detail work, including wet sanding, buffing, and eliminating paint defects.

Equipment Knowledge: Competence in operating and maintaining spray guns, DA sanders, air systems, and paint spray booths.

Physical & Safety Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, and kneel comfortably.
  • Willingness to strictly follow safety protocols and wear full PPE, including air-supplied respirators.
