Data Protection Officer (DPO)

About the Role

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) serves as the organization’s regulatory interface and primary point of contact for regulatory bodies, government authorities, and law enforcement agencies on matters relating to privacy. The role focuses on the regulatory aspects of the privacy program while also providing senior-level strategy, leadership, and accountability for the organization’s overall privacy posture.

The DPO’s responsibilities encompass the strategic, operational, regulatory, and governance aspects of the privacy program. This includes ensuring that the organization processes personal data belonging to customers, employees, vendors, and other individuals in compliance with applicable global privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including but not limited to GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDPA, LGPD, PIPEDA, and other applicable regional privacy requirements, as well as supporting implementation of the Privacy Policy and broader Privacy Program.

The role will report to the Legal and Compliance team and work closely with internal groups such as: Product Engineering, Information Security, Customer Success, Human Resources, Finance, and Research, etc. to manage privacy risk across the organization.

What You’ll Do at Cyble:

The roles and responsibilities of the DPO are as below:

Strategic:

• Establish necessary processes and resources for Regulatory Intelligence. This includes continual monitoring of the environment for any laws, regulations and compliance mandates that may emerge from time to time and their applicability to the organization.
• Maintain intelligence about Privacy incidents and actions taken by regulators/courts, fines and penalties levied.
• Build necessary connections & linkages with the external ecosystem & industry outside the organization to ensure:
• Organization remains in the know about the goings-on in the world of Privacy.
• Organization contributes as necessary & required to the external ecosystem in the domain of Privacy.
• Provide necessary support & expertise on Privacy to the Senior Management & Board as and when required.
• Define the strategy, objectives, and goals of the organization’s Privacy Program. Ensure it is in line with the overall Strategy and Business Goals of the organization.
• Design the Privacy Program and establish an Implementation Roadmap.
• Develop and maintain a global privacy compliance roadmap that aligns privacy obligations across multiple jurisdictions, including GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDPA, LGPD, PIPEDA, and other applicable regional privacy laws, while supporting business growth and international operations.
• Maintain awareness of emerging global privacy, AI governance, and data protection regulations, assess organizational applicability, and drive implementation of required privacy, data governance, and compliance controls.
• Ensure that adequate and appropriate resources are available for the Privacy Program.
• Establish a Privacy Organization structure for the Program. Provide direction and guidance to the Privacy Organization.
• Establish necessary processes and resources for Regulatory Intelligence. This includes continual monitoring of the environment for any laws, regulations and compliance mandates that may emerge from time to time and their applicability to the organization.
• Institute a Privacy Awareness & Training program within the organization to Ensure all stakeholders are equipped with the necessary awareness and training to carry out their roles & responsibilities.
• Build a culture of Privacy within the organization.
• Establish relationships and any associated formal mechanisms with other businesses & functions to ensure the smooth implementation and management of the Privacy Program.
• Be the advocate for the Privacy Program within the organization.

Operational:

• Set up necessary and maintain processes and mechanisms for Privacy processes like Privacy by Design, Privacy Impact Assessments, Privacy Incident Management, etc.
• Establish process to maintain an inventory of records to demonstrate compliance.
• Ensure adequate resources & budgets are available for the day to day running of the program.
• Coordinate and establish working relationships with business teams, marketing & Corporate Communications on the domain of Privacy. Enable them to leverage business & competitive advantages from the Privacy Program.
• Represent organization on industry forums & groups on matters pertaining to privacy.
• Institute and roll out processes, procedures & guidelines for Privacy Program implementation, maintenance & management as per the Privacy Policy.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Information Security, Legal, Compliance, and business teams to implement Privacy by Design principles throughout the software development lifecycle and third-party/vendor assessment processes.
• Oversee compliance activities relating to consumer, employee, and customer privacy rights, including access, deletion, correction, portability, consent, opt-out, objection, and other rights requests under applicable privacy laws.
• Monitor compliance with applicable privacy and data protection laws, regulatory obligations, contractual privacy commitments, and the organization’s Privacy Policy.

Regulatory:

• Be the point of contact for Regulatory Bodies, government & law enforcement agencies on matters relating to Privacy.
• Set up necessary processes & mechanisms within the organization to support all formal regulatory & other agency requirements.
• Coordinate between the regulatory bodies and the Privacy team based on applicable laws and regulations to ensure all compliance requirements are met.
• Coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, complaints, investigations, and reporting requirements across multiple jurisdictions and privacy regulators.
• Ensure that the regulatory bodies are communicated in time in the case of a Privacy breach. Manage subsequent communications till the issue is resolved

Governance and Oversight:

• Establish a governance framework for the Privacy Program.
• Establish oversight for the program in the PISSC (Privacy and Information Security Steering Committee).
• Establish necessary KPIs, Metrics and Data Points to track and measure the Privacy Program. Set up requisite reports & dashboard.
• Institute requisite audit mechanisms.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in law, information security, computer science, business, compliance, risk management, or a related field; advanced privacy, legal, cybersecurity, or GRC education is preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDPA, LGPD, PIPEDA, and other major global privacy regulations, with the ability to translate regulatory obligations into practical business and technical controls.
• Demonstrated understanding of privacy governance, data subject rights, DPIAs, privacy by design, breach notification, regulator engagement, and related compliance activities.
• Understanding of international data transfer mechanisms, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs), and vendor privacy due diligence.

Knowledge, skills and Experience

• 6+ years of experience in privacy, data protection, compliance, legal, information security, audit, or technology risk management, including direct responsibility for implementing and managing privacy programs under multiple regulatory frameworks such as GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDPA, LGPD, PIPEDA, or equivalent privacy laws.
• Strong practical knowledge of GDPR and global privacy requirements, including data subject rights, DPIAs/PIAs, privacy by design, processing records, breach response, and regulatory obligations.
• Demonstrated experience managing Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), privacy impact assessments (PIAs/DPIAs), consent management, privacy incident response, records of processing activities, and privacy assessments of vendors and third parties.
• Experience partnering with Product, Engineering, Security, Legal, and Compliance teams to implement Privacy by Design principles throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, privacy implications of AI systems, automated decision-making requirements, and emerging AI regulatory requirements is preferred.
• Excellent judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to advise Legal, Compliance, Information Security, Product, HR, Finance, Customer Success, and senior leadership.
