The role

As a Senior BI Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, optimizing, and governing Business Intelligence solutions across the organization.

You will work closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, data teams, and developers to translate business requirements into reliable, scalable, and actionable Power BI solutions. In addition to hands-on development, you will provide technical leadership, coaching, and governance to ensure BI solutions remain sustainable, high-performing, and aligned with business objectives.

Key responsibilities:

As a Senior BI Developer, you will:

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting and analytics needs and translate them into scalable BI solutions.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and supporting data transformations.
• Analyze and integrate data from multiple sources while improving data quality, reliability, and traceability.
• Optimize DAX calculations, Power Query transformations, semantic models, security settings, refresh performance, and report usability.
• Ensure data accuracy and maintain comprehensive technical and user documentation.
• Evaluate technical feasibility, dependencies, effort estimates, and implementation risks during project refinement activities.
• Define and promote best practices for BI development, data modeling, governance, documentation, testing, and solution reuse.
• Act as a technical escalation point for complex BI challenges and operational issues.
• Coach and mentor BI developers through peer reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency, maintainability, and business value of BI solutions.

Skills & experience

To be successful in this role, you bring:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field.

Experience

• Solid experience in BI development, analytics, database development, or data modeling.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including:
  • DAX
  • Power Query
  • Semantic Modeling
  • Report Design & Optimization
  • Deployment Practices
• Strong SQL knowledge and understanding of relational databases and dimensional modeling.
• Experience applying governance, testing, documentation, security, and version-control practices.
• Experience reviewing technical solutions and mentoring other developers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise Power BI environments.
• Experience working with shared semantic models, deployment pipelines, gateways, and workspace governance.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, APIs, Data Warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and Agile delivery methodologies.
• Experience working in international manufacturing, engineering, or shipbuilding environments is an advantage.
