Dayforce is a Toronto software company that provides cloud human capital management to large employers. Its platform runs payroll, workforce management and talent processes on a single continuous calculation engine rather than batch cycles. The company is listed in New York and Toronto and was previously named Ceridian.

About the opportunity

The Principal Technical Consultant is a senior technical consulting role responsible for architecting, delivering, and governing complex technical solutions across the Dayforce ecosystem. The role operates across multiple technical disciplines, including enterprise integrations, APIs, SFTP and file-based interfaces, iPaaS and middleware solutions, imports and exports, data loading and conversion, General Ledger interfaces, and other complex Dayforce technical services.

The Principal Technical Consultant works with customer technology teams, upstream and downstream application owners, implementation teams, partners, and internal Dayforce stakeholders to understand enterprise architecture and business requirements and translate them into secure, scalable, supportable technical solutions based on Dayforce technical architecture.

This role takes an end-to-end view of how data enters Dayforce, moves between Dayforce modules and external systems, is transformed and validated, and ultimately reaches downstream platforms. Depending on the customer architecture, the consultant may work across APIs, SFTP, flat-file interfaces, Integration Studio, Boomi or other iPaaS technologies, data loading tools, exports, General Ledger solutions, and related integration technologies.

As a Principal Consultant, the role also provides technical leadership across complex implementations, establishes solution and integration standards, leads technical design discussions, resolves critical technical issues, mentors other consultants, and acts as a trusted technical advisor to customers and project teams.

What you’ll get to do

• Provide expert technical solution architecture and consulting services across Dayforce implementations, translating business and technology requirements into secure, scalable, maintainable, and supportable solutions.

• Lead the architecture and delivery of complex end-to-end technical solutions spanning Dayforce, customer enterprise applications, third-party platforms, and integration or middleware technologies.

• Lead technical discovery with customers to understand their application landscape, upstream and downstream systems, data flows, integration requirements, security requirements, operational constraints, and non-functional requirements.

• Design and implement integrations using REST and SOAP APIs, web services, SFTP and secure file transfer, flat-file interfaces, scheduled interfaces, and event- or API-driven patterns as appropriate.

• Design and deliver integration solutions using Boomi and other iPaaS or middleware technologies, including orchestration, mapping, transformation, routing, error handling, logging, monitoring, and operational support considerations.

• Architect, review, and optimize solutions using Dayforce Integration Studio, APIs, connectors, and other available Dayforce integration capabilities.

• Design technical solutions for Dayforce imports, exports, data loading, and conversion activities, including mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation, exception management, and data quality controls.

• Design and support General Ledger and payroll-related technical interfaces, including mappings, transformations, balancing and reconciliation requirements, and integration with downstream ERP, finance, banking, or other enterprise platforms.

• Understand end-to-end data lineage, cross-module data flows, and dependencies between Dayforce and external systems; assess downstream impacts of configuration, data, or technical changes.

• Produce and review integration architecture, interface specifications, mapping documents, technical designs, data-flow diagrams, test approaches, and other technical delivery artifacts.

• Apply appropriate patterns for authentication, authorization, encryption, credential management, secure transmission, and handling of sensitive employee and payroll data.

• Identify and resolve complex integration, data, configuration, environment, and performance issues across multiple systems, leading structured technical troubleshooting through resolution.

• Perform technical design reviews and challenge proposed solutions where scalability, maintainability, security, performance, reliability, or supportability can be improved.

• Provide technical leadership during system and integration testing, cutover, go-live, and stabilization, including resolution of critical interfaces and data-related issues.

• Manage technical priorities, risks, dependencies, escalations, and deliverables across multiple complex projects and concurrent go-lives.

• Communicate complex technical subjects clearly to customer technology teams, business stakeholders, senior leaders, project teams, partners, and third-party vendors.

• Build trusted customer and stakeholder relationships through technical credibility, strong communication, sound judgement, and solution-focused decision-making.

• Act as a technical escalation point and trusted advisor for complex customer and implementation issues, including situations where multiple systems, vendors, or solution domains are involved.

• Identify opportunities for automation, reusable integration patterns, accelerators, tools, and technical assets that improve implementation quality, consistency, and delivery efficiency.

• Mentor junior and less senior consultants through project guidance, peer coaching, technical design reviews, documentation reviews, formal mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Contribute to training, enablement, communities of practice, technical standards, and internal initiatives that strengthen consulting capability and delivery quality.

• Influence internal initiatives and product or engineering roadmaps by sharing customer insights, identifying recurring technology gaps, and recommending improvements to Dayforce capabilities and delivery practices.

• Proactively identify customer value-add opportunities beyond the immediate technical requirement and recommend appropriate cross-functional or multi-module Dayforce solutions.

Skills and experience we value

• Deep knowledge of enterprise integration architecture and common integration patterns across cloud and enterprise applications.

• Strong hands-on understanding of REST and SOAP APIs, web services, SFTP and secure file transfer, file-based interfaces, and common data formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, and delimited files.

• Practical knowledge of iPaaS and middleware concepts, with experience in Boomi highly desirable, including orchestration, mapping, transformation, routing, error handling, logging, and monitoring.

• Strong understanding of Dayforce technical capabilities including Integration Studio, APIs, connectors, imports, exports, data loading, and related integration technologies.

• Experience designing or supporting General Ledger, payroll, finance, or other downstream technical interfaces, including mapping, transformation, reconciliation, and balancing considerations.

• Deep understanding of Dayforce architecture, data structures, critical cross-module data flows, and system interdependencies across areas such as Core HR, Payroll, Time and Attendance, Talent, and other relevant modules.

• Strong understanding of integration security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, secure credential handling, and secure data transmission.

• Ability to move effectively between solution architecture and hands-on technical delivery, including prototyping, troubleshooting, and validating complex solutions.

• Excellent analytical, diagnostic, creative, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify hidden dependencies, evaluate options, and make sound technical decisions.

• Strong business acumen and the ability to translate business requirements and enterprise architecture constraints into practical technical solutions.

• Ability to communicate complex technical subjects with clarity to both technology and business stakeholders and to lead technical design discussions with customer architects, vendors, and senior stakeholders.

• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of complex problems, and lead internal and customer teams through technical delivery and escalations.

• Full project lifecycle experience, including discovery, design, build, testing, cutover, go-live, stabilization, and transition to support.

• Ability to manage competing priorities, technical risks, dependencies, and deadlines across multiple projects in a consulting environment.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and demonstrated experience consulting directly with external customers.

• Ability to travel to and work at customer sites when required; interstate or overseas travel may be required from time to time.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a complementary discipline; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.

• Over 10 years of related experience in software implementation, enterprise applications, technical consulting, integration, or solution architecture.

• Over 5 years of Dayforce knowledge and experience, with demonstrated delivery experience across complex technical workstreams.

• Experience working with enterprise customers and multi-system technology landscapes; experience leading complex technical solutions or workstreams is expected.

• Hands-on experience with Boomi, another enterprise iPaaS platform, or comparable middleware technologies is highly desirable.

Principal-Level Consulting Capabilities

• Operates with a high degree of autonomy and accountability and is comfortable making technical decisions in ambiguous or complex situations.

• Provides technical leadership without losing the ability to engage hands-on when required to validate, troubleshoot, or unblock a solution.

• Anticipates technical, delivery, data, security, and operational risks and takes proactive action to prevent or mitigate them.

• Challenges solution approaches constructively and recommends alternatives based on scalability, maintainability, security, performance, and customer outcomes.
