Role Overview

We are seeking a Data Engineerto join our operational office in Medellín, Colombia. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring database health, overseeing end-to-end data pipeline flows, and developing scalable analytics tools, dashboards, and operational workflows within Snowflake and Sigma Computing.

You will work closely with cross-functional Implementation, Data, and Client Experience teams to ensure data integrity, streamline business intelligence delivery, and build self-service reporting assets that drive customer value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Monitoring & Data Flow Quality/Oversight:Proactively monitor SQL and cloud data warehouse pipelines, staging tables, and automated data ingestion to ensure continuous availability, high performance, and data integrity.
  • Sigma BI Development:Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards, complex data workbooks, and custom internal and external reporting tools within Sigma.
  • Data Transformation & Modelling:Write efficient, robust SQL queries, data models, and transformation scripts to prepare raw, multi-source datasets for BI consumption.
  • Troubleshooting & Anomaly Detection:Quickly identify, isolate, and resolve pipeline bottlenecks, data synchronisation failures, broken schemas, or report calculation discrepancies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Partner with Implementation Coordinators, Program Managers, and Data Engineers to structure client-specific data workstreams, including legacy records and spatial data assets.
  • Documentation & Standards:Document data dictionary definitions, metric logic, workflow automations, and reporting best practices to support team scalability.

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Snowflake and Sigma Computing:Demonstrated practical experience working with cloud data warehouses and building dashboards and calculation models in Sigma Computing or deep expertise in platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker, with a strong ability to quickly master Sigma. Experience with cloud data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, or Amazon Redshift is valued, with direct Snowflake experience being highly regarded.
  • Experience:2-4 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data analysis, BI development, or database monitoring in a production environment.
  • Advanced SQL-Essential:Strong, hands-on SQL capability is essential for this role. Candidates must be proficient in writing and optimising complex queries using CTEs, window functions, joins, and aggregations across cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, or Amazon Redshift.
  • Data Flow & Pipeline Knowledge:Solid understanding of ETL/ELT principles, database schema design, and tracking data lineage from ingestion through to dashboard display.
  • English and Spanish Language Proficiency:A minimum B2 level of English proficiency, both verbal and written, is required, alongside native or fluent Spanish. This role involves regular communication and collaboration with English-speaking colleagues across the United States and Australia.
  • Problem-Solving:Strong analytical mindset with rigorous attention to detail regarding data accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Analytical & Model Literacy:Comfort working with the outputs of predictive and classification models, such as booked-versus-blocked night inference and occupancy estimates. This includes understanding confidence thresholds, precision and recall trade-offs, known failure modes, and representing predicted values as distinct from observed values in dashboards and client-facing reporting.
  • Data Governance & Confidentiality:Sound judgment when handling sensitive client data and public records containing personally identifiable information, including address-level and parcel-level data. Familiarity with access controls, row-level security, and the principle of exposing only the minimum data a given report or user requires.
  • Communication & Data Storytelling:Ability to explain data limitations, methodology, and confidence levels to non-technical partners, Implementation Coordinators, Program Managers, and client stakeholders in clear terms. You’ll be the person who explains what a number does and does not support and translates a schema change or data gap into what it means for a client’s deliverable.
  • Education:Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems-or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DBT Experience:Experience working with DBT would be an asset, demonstrating exposure to large-scale, modern SQL pipelines and structured data transformation practices.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages for data automation, such as Python, R, or Bash.
  • Experience with GIS or spatial data layers, such as Esri ArcGIS integrations.
  • Prior experience in a SaaS, civic technology, GovTech, or data-intensive analytics start-up environment.
  • Experience working directly with U.S.-based distributed teams.

English-Language Requirement
