Collections Specialist I

This role is hybrid with a required onsite presence 2-3 daysper week in Knoxville, TN.

Role: The Collections Specialist I is responsible for collecting delinquent payments and providing member service regarding collection issues.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Performs outbound calls on delinquent members, services inbound calls, accurately documents member interactions, payment arrangements, and action plans in the core collection platform.
• Skip traces for members that the Credit Union hasn’t been successful in reaching; reviews loan documentation, leverages skip trace platform(s) and references prior collection notes in an effort to reach the member.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of experience in collections, account recovery, delinquency management, consumer lending, or negotiating payment arrangements is required.
• Experience in customer service, account servicing, financial services, call center operations, banking, or credit union environments is preferred.
• Experience working with skip tracing, loss mitigation, payment arrangements, and other account recovery activities, including resolving delinquent debt, negotiating payment solutions, handling difficult conversations, and maintaining professionalism is preferred.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED is required

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of an organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including business writing ability.
• Excellent time management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
